I did look for any PU or EPS type 9 in my area, but didn't find anything that suited my needs. Found some PU, but only in thicker sheets that would have resulted in a lot more work and expense.
I'm going to give the pour foam a try as soon as I can. At the cost of any alternatives that I have...
Yep. Home Depots, Lowes, Ace Hardware with in 3 hours of me all sold out/can't order more. Tried calling around to a few specialty shops in the area, but they are all out as well.
Just ordered 2 gallons of pour foam from Totalboat. I went with the 2 pound density. Here's a few stats...
My local stores have no 4x8 sheets of XPS and won't ship from other stores.
Why don't you think pour foam would work?
I just started looking into it. Total Boat offers a "floatation foam" with a compressive strength of 38psi. It's moulded weight is 3.3 pounds/ cubic foot, so it would add an...
Well, just got an E-mail from the company I ordered my XPS board from. Turns out they don't actually have the product and don't know when they will get it. Home depot and lowes are also out of all XPS foam bigger than 2'x2' squares. Not finding it anywhere!
Any suggestions on a supplier of 3/4...
OK. Yeah I considered using rigidly mounted actuators, but heard about issues getting multiple actuators working in unison and generally decided I wanted a manual system.
I was planning on doing a top and bottom seal when it's in the closed position.
I think I will take your advise and figure...
I thought the H-brace just hinged in the center when lowered and locked in place somehow to create a vertical brace when popped up. How does it help with lifting the roof?
Getting a seal around the slides will be an issue. I'll make an effort, but doubt I will ever get a perfect seal, so I am open to other ideas. I'm not sure what you mean by "internal lift poles" though.
Good recommendation. It's so hard to find companies that are willing to sell this kind of stuff to private builders. Cool that this company does that.
I like these systems functionality but I don't plan on having a massive battery bank or solar array at this time, so I think I want to be able to...
The idea is to use a box-on-box design. The roof will be attached to about 17" of wall all the way around, making an upside down "box". This "box" will fit over an inner section of wall that will also be about 17" tall. The outer and inner walls will be attached with vertically mounted drawer...
Interesting.
The front end on the T100 is the same as the pre-1995 pickups but with longer axle shafts.
I'm no expert, but I think all T100s came with the "Toyota 8.4" axle in the rear. Same as the early Tundra and Sequoias and Tacomas without the factory locker. I know the differential...
I don't really expect to have any issues with the rear axle, so not planning on switching it out unless it starts chewing up bearings or I bend the housing or something that tells me I'm asking too much of it.
I like the idea of airbags for an adjustable ride, but don't think I'll ever buy...
Thanks. Glad you've enjoyed the videos.
We actually got to checkout that F550 in person a few years back when we were working Overland EXPO west. It's a very nicely done build, but definitely bigger and pricier than my goals. Can always try to learn something though.
2000 Tundra is a pretty...
The plan is to build the camper, load it up, and see how heavy she is. The goal is to stay under GVWR, but its going to be close when packed for a longer trip with full water tanks, pantry, and all the toys. Upgrading the shocks is going to happen for sure, but depending on how much she weighs...
Thanks, but the Raka 6 gallon kit comes out to $63 per gallon shipped and that's with the 305 non-blushing hardener. I'm not finding Totalboat any cheaper. Let me know if you have a cheaper dealer you use. I've never used Raka, but it has good reviews on the wooden boat building forums and if...
our last camper (the one in the 1st pic of my original post) was just a single sheet of 5mm ply with 6oz glass inside and out and it pushed it's way through many jungle trails. It even held up fine to a bit of stone throwing in Guatemala with nothing more than scuffed paint. As the "looks don't...
Thanks for the info. I'm assuming you'r mat glass was a lot thicker than the 6oz. woven cloth e-glass I plan to use and would have easily made up for the relatively thin wood. I think I will stick with the thicker wood and thinner glass. It's what I used on my last build and it held up well. I...
Thanks for the input. What weight fiberglass did you use? and E glass or S glass?
I'll have to have another look at what's available in the local lumberyards.
I have finally started my new build!
This truck will be THE BEST... at nothing!
My build platform is a 1995 Toyota T100, extended cab, 4x4, 3.4L V6, 5 speed manual trans. My wife, dog, and I have already lived out of this truck with a very basic DIY camper while traveling through Mexico and...
It's all personal preference and compromise.
I'd probably go with the camper you already have if you can make it meet your needs. Leaves more money for travel and lets you gain more experience before trying to design and build your own camper.
My wife, dog, and I lived out of our dIY truck...
