My Ovrlnd weighed 360 lbs, and with a pretty decent but no frills build out still weighs less than any slide in shell, with more floor space to boot. Not to mention, zero problems, in 4.5 years of pretty heavy use. Very stout welded aluminum build.
If you’re hand drilling it’s real hard to open up the channel. I ended up using a 1/4 inch bit for the through hole and a very fat step drill for the counter bore, which worked well. I have hand drilled with that set up, but wouldn’t want to do it much. I also found that 1/4 20 stainless flat...
Did you take a look on Tundras.com? There was a sticky thread on this and a spreadsheet showing all the reported failures by year and mileage. Assuming it’s continued to be updated it might be helpful to your thinking process.
Yeah, it’s not good at all. To be clear, the reversing idea came from me, not MaxxAire — out of desperation in the middle of the night when the squealing started I just tried running it back and forth at various speeds and it cured the noise for quite a while. I repeated that a couple times...
These look like much better designed and spec’d fans. I especially like the brushless motor, which should avoid the motor based issues with the Maxx fans. While the website linked shows them as not available till Aug, I saw that VanToys has them in stock.
I don’t know about the company that...
I have carried 5 gallons of gas on my reinforced barn door, which also had about 10 lbs hanging on the inside with no problem, so ~40ish lbs. That door has the internal reinforced frame in the second picture above. It also has 3 hinges, but they’re really strong just with two. I personally...
Not sure I’d trust Rivnuts on the rear doors. Unless you mean the corner studs, the framing in the doors isn’t as stout as the main wall frame. What I did was through bolt into 8020 VHB’d on the inside of the doors serving as a stiffener interior frame. I also used VHB on the external 8020 too.
I’ve used a Bad Elf gps puck for years with zero issues. Not a $10 one. It was apparently pitched towards aviation. Think it was about $100 at the time, but that was maybe 10 years ago? Geeze, just looking at the website now they’re nearly $500. Effing inflation🤬
All I know is I ran my new motor 24 hours on high like they said to seat the bearings and it wasn’t squeaking, but won’t be using it in the wild until July, so I’ll report back
MaxxAir CS Rep couldn’t give me a date, but said the new motor I was getting (from eTrailer) would have been the...
@rruff and @andy_b thanks for the feedback. I drove my Tacoma with (non-adjustable) Icons for years without a front SB and a little too heavy in the rear when packed with lighter Deavers than I have now with no real drama. As many have said the lean is manageable.
With the camper, which the...
Do you have a rear sway bar? I am really close to deleting my front one, but with the camper I wonder if a rear swaybar would help the on road handling while the absence of the front SB in combination with having a rear one would allow for less offroad and washboard chatter but still help...
I had deposit on a TetonX and finally came to my senses just before they started the build and backed out. Not due to the trailer or the company, but because I wanted to go back to the White Rim and many other places in the Southwest that I love and did previously in my built ’09 Tacoma and a...
If you want small and to go w/ a ready made DCDC charger, the National Luna is small, but excellent. Been using mine for 4.5 years without a hitch. This is what ATOverland uses in their builds.

Other related factors that haven’t been mentioned enter in here and are worth considering. The three big reasons to air down are 1) traction, 2) comfort, and 3) protection from flats. Numbers 2 and 3 are affected by wheel size to a degree. Smaller wheel size = more sidewall = more flex for the...
Seems like the Zamp folks would be the call. I’m no expert either, and only use portable solar occaisionally, but the National Luna MPPT solar controller I have clearly manages and does control the flow from and prevents flow to the panel.
Sounds all too familiar! I started out thinking control board too, but mine is fine. New fan motor has been running 20 hours on high so far on the old board just fine.
MaxxAir customer service was very helpful and knowledgeable and helped me realize the fan motor was my particular problem...
I’m at 4.5 years in on our Ovrlnd and it’s been stellar. We don’t shy away from rough trails and bad washboards and it has performed flawlessly. Jay will pretty much build it anyway you want and the thing is stout, but light (mine was CAT scaled weighed 362 on my Tundra when I got it). The...
