That's some good packing! I don't think that we would be trying to do this if we did not have a trailer to borrow. The downfall to the tent I bought is that it is a little on the bulky side. At ~1/10 the cost of a RRT, I think it is a good compromise as far as ease of setup.

A guy in my club put them on his ZJ and popped them the first time offroading. Don't know any other details, just trying to share another experience that I know of.

This experience helped me confirm what I want eventually. It is all part of the decision making process.

I rented it from the Air Force Base that I work on.

I want something smaller than an 8' tent trailer and like the idea of using a M416 type trailer for general hauling when not trail camping.

Thanks, Do you have an auto or 6 speed in your LJ? I am also a mile higher in elevation than you, so that has some effect as well.
