It was good meeting you too. Yeah, got out no problem. I figured if your big rig made it, so could I :) Looked like you had some snow waiting for you at home.

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Chris, So far my build has held up very well. This type of panel construction is not new to overlanding. I think the key to the twisting and torqueing is a solid foundation and possibly a 3 point attachment. There is a ton of discussion on that in the forum. For my build, the floor is made...

My idea for a new panel has different variations. * Cost and weight. If you go with 2" foam board, you will need 4" aluminum angle which increases cost and weight. For 1" foam board, 3" aluminum angle which will decrease cost and weight. This will be a personal preference regarding wall...

Did a little winter camping last night. Temps dropped to 37. The propex heater did a great job on a minimal setting. No sleeping bag needed just a lite blanket. Easily maintained temp of 60. Also used 3% of battery. Anxious to try it out when it gets really cold and windy.

I went the easy route with battery powered puck lights. They work well but just don't last that long before needing new batteries. So, I installed a flexible LED my wife found at Lidl for $15. Its a little over 14 ft. and comes with a 12 volt adapter which I cut off and wired directly in. The...

While on our trip we never needed any shore power. I'm very impressed and happy with the performance of these drop in Lithium batteries. I finally read up on the Magnum battery monitor and it tells me everything from state of charge to amps coming in and being used. The lowest SOC observed was...

Compost toilet; takes some adjustment but overall it is definitely "more pleasant?" and easier to empty than the curve cassette. I did learn that its important to put the right amount of median in the bucket or it will smell smell smell. Also cedar does a better job than pine. One important...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

Recently returned from a trip to Missouri and learned a few things. First though, third time was the charm for the drain. The two pvc 90's lined up and fit together for a smooth flow. Also an easy way to line up the truck and camper for loading; while camper is on the stand, back truck as...

Pulled the trigger on the C-Head http://c-head.com/. Wife thought I should build my own and use the money for other things than a toilet. Probably could have but glad I didn't. I must say how impressed I was with the quality, fit and finish of this product. The website does not do it...

    DIY Composite Flatbed Camper Build

I've been rethinking the compost toilet option after reading a recent thread about a family of four and how they only dumped twice in 6 weeks. I steered away from this option due to size, however after learning about the C-Head, I may be reconsidering. Anybody have experience with this model or...

Other updates include moving the soap dispenser over the sink to allow more shower space. Also added a teak floor mat for traction. Needed convenient wall storage, so netting was easily installed.

Update; hopefully third time is the charm for gray tank drain line. After using the shower on our last trip, I still was not satisfied with the drainage. The key of course is no restriction or sag in the line. As I said "hopefully" this will do the trick.

Got around to the scales this morning. Not as light as I had hoped, but a reduction of 1,040 lbs over our last camper. Camper dry weighs 2400 lbs. Truck without camper weighs 8,120lbs, with camper 10,520lbs.

First real shake down: Just took a 7 day trip to Saint Louis and Elsah Illinois. Put close to 2k miles in. While no off-roading, it sure seemed like it with the poor road conditions surrounding St Louis. Through all the bumps and jolts the camper did not budge. It's amazing what a few lag...

I think it depends on the build method, some extrusions definitely are structural. Enjoy your build!

The drain in #12 is for the shower and the sinks. It is a 1 inch tube that exits between the camper and cab. A flex line then connects it to the gray tank under the flat bed. For my build the aluminum is a must for construction. The video's you referenced are very interesting but I don't know...
