NMO body mount is best if you can do that
I have the comet SBB5 which is about 38" & its an amazing antenna so far
& with regards to the HT antenna I've been using nagoya NA771's for all my HT's though they're about 15.5" overall, on my wouxon I keyed up a NY rpt 40 miles away with that antenna...
I run a IC706MKIIG with an ldg at7000 autotuner into a 12.5' whip for HF on the rear & a comet sbb5 for vhf/uhf on the drivers side passenger door with a diamond super KNMO mount. LMR240 for all HF coax & RG174 for the vhf/uhf
sun was perfect today, so I grabbed the camera & out the door I went
talked to a couple of ham radio friends in my travels testing out my new allstar 40 watt link radio at the house, does exceptionally well
some updates over the lastfew weeks, trying other options....
changed my frequency from UHF to VHF in preparation of a motorola maxtrac that does 40 watts instead of the HT at 4W's
built a new antenna today, since I dont want a beam on the system & tested it out to kill boredom
went for a drive through the countryside to test our my allstar node if different areas to see how my coverage is, soon I'll be adding a 40 watt VHF motorola maxtrac radio to the mix
the current radio is 4 watts VHF & if this is doing well, I'll be kicking butt afterwards
trying to setup an HSMM mesh node via ham radio
if I was an IT person this might be easier...

most times when you unlock or open up a radio the receiver becomes very wide, hopefully not in this case
there is a mobile antenna that comet produces like the CA-2x4SR that cover both freq allocations with a very low swr
though some departments will allow your ham transceiver its...
my new antenna came in today, 4 days late but I heard that the piggy back tractor trailer went off the road in a work zone, hopefully the driver is OK

I've had an echolink node up & running on and off for 21 years now on different bands
Its activity comes & goes, decided I'd try allstar & hopefully it yield better results for QSO's
To do this frugally is only about $150
So I acquired all the pieces: raspberry pi2, ARS usb adapter & baofeng...
I built this one from a molle ruck, members here tore me limb from limb; though the owner of trasharoo thought less & wasnt worried
use what you have & build it to suit your needs
