Simple Lead Acid to Lithium Iron Phosphate

Once you have tried LiFePO4 it is really hard to go back to lead acid. The weight savings is nice, but even if they were just as heavy as lead acid I would be a fan.

Simple Lead Acid to Lithium Iron Phosphate

Yep, I'm also using my little test as a way to see how well the BMS in the Battle Born batteries does it's job.

Simple Lead Acid to Lithium Iron Phosphate

The issue is the strain that the LiFePO4 batteries place on the alternator, forcing it to run at 100%+ of rated output. I actually ran a test direct connecting 400Ah of LiFePO4 batteries to my 2006 Dodge Ram charging system through a Blue Sea ACR. Within the first month or so my alternator...

is the redarc bcdc1240d too much for a 75a alternator?

How old is that alternator? Consider just dropping in a new one with higher rated output. It probably will be pretty inexpensive.

    Pass-through really necessary?

If the truck is over 10,000 GVWR it is exempt from the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 49 CFR § 571.216a for roof crush resistance. As I understand it, the issue is that the makers are using the same cabs for a wide range of vehicles, so for example if Ford publishes a spec for...

    Pass-through really necessary?

It's worth noting that most of the European trucks (cabovers) are designed to have the rear wall cut out without compromising the integrity of the occupant protection systems. In the US you can get vans as cutaways but not pickup trucks, and the makers (Ford, GM, RAM, etc.) have no provisions...

    Pass-through really necessary?

As long as the vehicle is over 10,000 pounds it is exempt from the FMVSS for Roof Crush Resistance.

Recommend a great, not just good, first aid kit.

If you are looking for pre-built kits, I've always liked the Adventure Kits marine series - https://www.adventuremedicalkits.com/medical-kits/marine.html

    Ford Cargo build

I would probably just put a locker in the rear and send it. There aren't a lot of places you would take something that big and that heavy that would necessitate 4x4.

    Winnebago EKKO

Yes, my understanding is that the slowdown in production was related to supply chain and labor availability. Ford also did an early changeover to the 2022 model year.

integrated compact truck in the us

I think part of the issue is that customers expect smaller campers to be less expensive, but the reality is that they have all the same systems and lighter materials are usually more expensive rather than less. It's not like a 20 gallon water tank costs significantly less than a 75 gallon one...

integrated compact truck in the us

Again, the issue is not the box builder it is the lack of a suitable chassis in North America. We would love to build on more diverse platforms but for the US market the full-size 1-ton or larger pickup truck is the most broadly used. There's peace of mind that comes from knowing you can find...

Anderson Connectors - seem to be having issues?

It's also possible to put the contact into the connector housing inverted. Over the years I've encountered several that were assembled incorrectly.

    7" Round LEDs?

I like the Truck-Lites. I have the 27275C on my Samurai - I like it because it is a less 'modern' appearance than a lot of LED headlights so blends in better on my 1987 Suzuki. https://www.truck-lite.com/27275c.html

A discussion about Rover pricing....are values really gone this high?

The prices of everything is through the roof right now. I bought a P38 18 months ago that is now worth 2x what I paid for it.

    LiFeP04 charge controller recommendations

I have the REDARC BCDC1240D (the 40A version of what you posted) in my 4x4 van. It's not a full build out, just 200Ah of LiFePO4, solar panels, diesel heater, fridge, and removable bed platform. I like that it seems to work. I don't like that there is no configuration or ways to check the...

Thoughts on the Truckhouse Tacoma expedition camper...

Yeah I don't think anyone really can understand how long it takes to do something like that unless you've built one yourself. It took us a year to do our first Nimbl, even with having the old XPCamper tooling as a starting point.

    LiFeP04 charge controller recommendations

You use a DC-to-DC charger to protect the vehicle charging system and wiring, not the house battery. If you don't have something to restrict the amount of power the lithium battery is pulling it will run your alternator at 100% (or higher) rated output. On an older vehicle it's not a huge deal...
