Lots of mountain bikers carry bikes over the tailgate of a pickup. You have to be able to lift them obviously, but you can buy some good chains to lock them up.
I have ‘21 Touring XT, to which I’ve added A/T tires, engine skid plate, heavy duty rear springs, and a full size spare. I knew the Wilderness was coming, but opted for the Touring because of some features I like (ventilated seats, acoustic glass). We tow a 1500 pound teardrop for our camping...
Hey all. We travel with an Outback XT and a “squaredrop” trailer (see pic). Not exactly overlanding but we do get off the beaten path regularly. We get less than 20 mpg with the trailer in tow, shrinking our range to around 260 mi or so.
For an upcoming trip to Utah I’d like to carry and extra...
I mean, you still have the right NOT to buy one in the first place. This is hardly tyranny run amok. If buyers don’t like it, they won’t buy, and Ford will back off. I can understand them trying to shut down flippers.
Seems unlikely to be enforced. I mean, if someone sells, what’s the dealer...
Question for those with a 2011 -2013 GX460 - what’s the distance from the back of the front seats to the very back? Trying to determine if I could sleep in one (I’m about 6’1”). I currently sleep in the back of my 2021 Outback (when I don’t take my trailer out), but the GX appears to be a few...
Thanks for inputs. IF - and still a big if — if I decide to upgrade over my Outback, it’s gonna be a GX460. Sounds like most see it the same way, it’s a better value. I’ve been looking online at used ones between 2012 and 2016. We’ll see.
Overland Vehicle Systems 270 working well for me so far. I’ve had only three nights out with it so far, but lots of wind (20-30 mph gusts) and it was not affected at all. I assume this thing will last, but time will tell.
I use the Dewalt 20v inflator, in part because I already use Dewalt tools and batteries. It also works off a 12v “lighter” outlet. It’s slow, but reliable...
I’m driving a slightly modified Outback turbo, and I can’t shake the desire to get a more capable 4x4. Prices are crazy these days. Scanning vehicles available in the ballpark of $30k to maybe $40k, it seems like the GX is a better value. I’d have to make some mods (tires, wheels, skid plates)...
Hi all. We took delivery of a new teardrop this winter and I think I‘d like to modify how they have it wired. I opted for the most basic wiring the company offered because I just didn’t like the packages (or prices) of what they offered. Right now it’s set up with:
- shore power connection...
I’ve been living under a rock and really had no idea what Rivian was about. I’m not into overlanding, yet. More of a traditional car camper, often dispersed camping, using my campsites as a base for mountain biking. But I’m getting more and more interested in overlanding as a way to really...
Hardly an expedition rig, but here’s my new Outback Touring XT in dispersed campsite not too far from Leadville, CO. The only mod is that I’ve added the factory hitch because it will soon be pulling a Hiker Trailer. I’m looking to upgrade tires for a bit more confidence on rough dirt roads. And...
This thread is immensely helpful! We have a trailer coming from Hiker Trailer later this summer. They offer Rhino Rack but I’d read that some folks don’t like the Rhino Rack Batwing so I decided to shop for an awning separately. That trailer will have a galley in the back with a door that will...
