Well here ya go.
Loaded up the camper on the Nissan today and brought her up to the house.
The scales at the shop put her at 1027.8 lbs dry . That's without a propane tank installed . Damn thing hasn't arrived yet.
The truck handles well . But would never be able to tow a trailer with the...
And just why do you think that is?
Could it be that the owners of sed trucks ( and I use that term lightly ) have become frustrated with there trucks lack of truck and are now dumping them in cheap.
Look. Swapping safety ( yours and everyone else on the road ) for a few miles per gallon is a...
For the cost of a Dodge 1500 Eco diesel. One could buy a nice economical car and an older truck capable of hauling what you truly want to haul.
Dodge saw every one coming.
At $50 large in 2014 for a 1/2 ton truck you'd have thought it would have been a looser.
But with the new mentality...
Got a bunch of things buttoned up over the past few days.
I'm pretty sure that she will be moving up to the house by Tuesday.
Then on to the Ford......
I like your idea. ( upper attachment to the bumper.)
I also see your point with the tongue extension.
Load wisely and keep it safe.
Remember , we need to be more concerned with the other people on the road than ourselves.
They didn't have a choice in the design......
Use 1x2" x .065 for the roof and cab over floor. This will allow for twice the insulation in those critical arias as well as double the strength of the chassis.
The chassis pictured is an 8 footer with a 60" overhang ( bunk ) that will work in a short or long bed. Chassis weight is 320lbs.
I doubt very much that you will find anything that you will like as well as your 05 Bigfoot on todays market.
Especially with a side entrance short bed configuration.
Most ( not all ) side loaders are large , heavy units with a CG to far back to work well in a short bed truck.
Sorry that I...
I'd be for extending the trailer tongue. No added leverage to the truck.....
So this makes the weight a moot point.
If the trailer has a square tube tongue it is as easy as fabricating a hitch extension. Just buy the correct size tube to slip in to the tube that the tongue is made of, then pin...
The camper looks good. The data plates are on the left side of the door in the last Pic.
A little pencil graphite may revile what has been rubbed off.
The camper looks very similar to a Conestoga 9" er from the early to mid 70's .
If it's dry , and has been kept that way it should be a nice...
The promised pics:
This one should provide some scale. The lovely wife....
The bobtail was delivered to the shop yesterday.
It's going to be fun to build up a Ford for fun rather than for work for a change.
I've built ton's of Ford work trucks over the years but never a Ford...
This is the post that started this whole uproar. You took offence to the E4OD comment, The super cab comment and the diesel comment.
Funny, they all describe your truck.
Do you see any reference to a diesel only comment from me here?
I went back and looked . I am giving advice concerning...
Welllllllll. The cab and chassis will be delivered to my yard today.
I'm glad I started the build with an import in mind for the foundation of the over all rig.
Forced me to keep the design light.
I am also glad that I will now be able to plant the coach on a 3/4 ton Ford chassis.
The added...
But not in every 3/4 or 1 ton produced by Ford from the late 80's through the late 90's
You should be a politician. you'd be great in the debates.
OK. You stated ALL 1ton's were the same as ALL 3/4 ton's. If you read my post that started this conversation I was speaking gas and diesel...
Look by your logic both transmissions are actually C-6's , just upgraded. . Try again man . Is the 350 Chevy actually a 283? Well sure they are , look parts interchange......
Just because you own one doesn't make it the best. It just means you own one......
The 1ton has a 3000lb load...
I like the Torklift upper snubers. A good idea.
I wasn't aware of the need to drill the lower spring for the lower overload. Not a fun thing to have to do.
Couldn't one just replace the centering pin with a longer pin incorporating the overload into the spring pack?
Sorry again While some hard parts are interchangeable ( as are often used to upgrade and a fix the E4od's problems ) the electronics are different not just programing. As are the transfer case mounting flange , bell housing diameter and the torque ratings.
The E40d ( depending on year ) will...
