Mog, Simon and all, all sound advices!
Mog, how did you figure I didn't graduate from the Tokyo institute?!? lol. I'm a bit surprised by your opinion on not going with a sub-frame. Only 1 or 2 other friends (Simon being one of them) came up with similar conclusion. Having built and camperized...
Looks like your computer skills are way above mine, no way I could superpose two pictures without using tape and paper, hahaha!
Interesting to see for sure. For comparaison, my current wheelbase is 136" so even shorter than the 1017! By bringing it between 160" and 166" would likely be the best...
I had a better look this morning and I will need to extend the wheelbase. I'm thinking to grind all the rivets for the leafs hangers, move the rear suspension and crossmembers by a min. of 24" and bolt it back in its new location. Then I will extend the frame at the back. This way I don't have...
I did read about that 60% AU rules on one of the forum and as skifreak said, I'd be pretty close but probably over as 14' is at the end of the lighter brown box (had to use 2 pieces of paper) but nothing is to scale right now.
There's only one local shop that I could find that can stretch...
I would also had been upset given you tried to avoid this even before getting your truck!
In my case I saw the pictures before buying it so knew it was a swb but was surprised when I saw the big scars on the frame rails.
Ideally I would like an extra 24" of wheel base especially after I took...
Hi. I'm also looking for similar information.
On my Hino Ranger, (also a fire truck) it says to run the PTO between 1000-1200rpm for the pump.
I also have this sticker on my transfer case, not sure it can be of any help though.

Thanks!
Only rust was on the sideboards which I'm almost done removing. It can with a ladder holder that would lock it in place but no struts involved. Now just working on temporarily relocating the fuel tank and as I type this I just figured out where it used to be! So no drilling needed, it...
Some more grinding today to get rid of the steel sideboards. This will allow me to temporarely mount the small fuel tank.
Once I get the habitat box to my place I'll know how to design the sub-frame and what size of fuel tanks (x2) I can fit.

The difference is night and day, no more pulling the engine just to change glowplugs, just tilt the cab and its right there!
She looks good!

Well, the box is officially gone!
We had to disconnect the lower boxes from the steel running board on each side but wow, were they ever rusted out! Good thing I'm not keeping those. Even better, it was the only part rusted on the entire truck!
Now finishing the rims and getting the new box...
Yeah, I'll be a tad chobbier [emoji6] but it never stopped me before.
The box is coming off this week so about to look funny and ride like on a goat trail...
I got all the parts ready to put the new wheels but haven't figured where to paint them yet. With this colder weather it complicates...
Yes, it might very well be 285.75mm, I just recall it wasn't 275 as I thought they would be. For some reason it's the only measurement missing on the CAD printout so I'll confirm with the shop in a few days. I did hang one of the new disk plates on a hub and it was a good fit...

Yes, I think 8x285 isn't that common but does exist in some applications. Would have been so nice to just find rims that fitted! Lol

Same gauge as the original but hot pressed steel vs unknown Hino steel specs. The only difference I could have done to make them even stronger would be to bevel only one side of the lug holes. That would require me to undo all 20 bolts and flip the center disc every time I'd rotate front to...
Typical 335/80r20 recommend 10-11" rims so not sure why the Pirelli would be different (I also read 9" for them) but it's still within specs. Also, going 10" allows me to move to a 365 if I later decide to.
As for Rockwell, I don't think I save that much money (I did, just nothing major) but I...
My goal was to make them safe but I guess it's still the wild west out here. ;) I'm glad not to be in EU where you can't even install your own trailer hitch!!! Isn't building your own projects part of the fun? From my measurements, the front and rear will track within 2cm (3/4") and will stick...
