Yeah, because it's a chassis truck over 9k lbs, it's registered as commercial in AZ. Converting to an RV is the only option I found as an alternative. I'm not sure on the cost difference, but other advantages to making it an RV are being exempt from weight stations and getting RV insurance.
Speaking about slow to update, I have another update!
I got the roof rack & ladder finished and installed. It's simple, low profile and really just a guard for the future roof components. I plan to make a similar styled cargo rack over the truck cab.
I'm working on getting the truck registered as an RV (currently reg as commerical). In AZ, you need 4 of 6 listed requirements for the RV inspection to pass.
Here's the list I found. These items have to be permanently installed:
1.) A cooking facility with on board fuel source <- Induction...
Cool, sounds almost exactly like what I built and it's been a solid setup. Only hiccup I found was that the ATV winch was really loud inside the camper. I wrapped it with sound deadening mats from Amazon and it cut down the noise significantly. Also, my wife was concerned about a kid playing...
Ok, your truck weight definitely rules out the light truck tire suggestion (long shot anyways). Me personally, I would go for the super single setup and give your rig more capability for the far northern and southern roads. Like I said before, it's not an ideal highway setup, but definitely more...
I had the Toyo M608z tires in 225/70r19.5 and really hated them. They would catch the road and pull me in different directions randomly. Also, they did cause a sway feeling that made a very white knuckle experience. Those tires came with my truck and I used them for 500 miles before swapping to...
"These campers don't fit in standard utility beds and you won't find better storage, or a nicer truck when the camper is removed."
How would you even remove the camper from the bed? drag it out? It's not like you can use the built on jack system because the truck boxes block those. I suppose...
Anyone know if I can have the silver stainless steel box handles powder coated black? or any other method of changing them to black?
I plan to replace the locks with tubular cam locks and will need to drill the rivets and remove the handles during that time. I'm thinking it would be a good...
A few more updates from the week! I finished sealing the bathroom cutout. Much more work upcoming in the bathroom, but the first step is done. Also, I bought a 2015 Ram grille in black over the weekend. I'm going to leave the cow guard off and start shopping for a real bumper & winch...
I recently decided to make an actual bathroom in the camper. Just a toilet, door, light, fan, and maybe a folding vanity. The shower is permanently outside since it's too short inside the camper and space is limited. So far I cut the box section out of the closest to give more room for a toilet...
Looks like your Raptor liner turned out great. I had trouble with the Raptor, but it mostly came down to my inexperience and weather. It didn't help that I sprayed it on the hottest day of the year (117 F). I started early, but it was still hot and getting breezy around the second coat. Mine...
On our Utah trip, I really noticed the inconsistency with the raptor liner sheen. It low light conditions, the side profile of the truck looked pretty blotchy and just poorly done. In direct light, the coating looked good. When I sprayed the truck, I was focused on getting more coverage over the...
