@badm0t0rfinger & @Grassland , thank you both for answering. You guys have helped me out a lot with the questions I've had in the past. I appreciate it. The reason I asked about the 3 things are as follows:
For #1 the decked system. I habitually browse craigslist and ran across a used decked...
Knocking the dust of this thread because I have a few questions for you folks. With current events disrupting normal life, I sort of halted my search for a F150. I got back on the ball a few weeks ago looking for a '11-14 Supercrew 5.0. Hope some of you can help with the following:
#1 Have any...
I have read the phrase "don't fear the gear" on a lot of forums.
Look at these guys running up and down the highway with 4:10 gears in there Mustang. There tire size is MUCH smaller in diameter. They are thrilled with the off the line power and the highway RPMs don't seem to be a bother.
This...
Have any of you guys owned an F150 with the factory vinyl seats? Any problems with them cracking or wearing out ? Are they comfortable?
I'm sure it's easier to keep them clean than cloth seats. The STX and XL trim trucks have them as an option.
Thanks.
My mind got off track! Sometimes I spot a vehicle and think "hey that would make a neat project". This Grand Cherokee was right in front of me and the gears in my brain started turning. After I slept on it, reality set in.
The reality is I need a 4wd truck. I have a lot of stuff that I plan to...
I've looked at a few trucks locally over the weekend. I'll spare everyone the specifics but the end result was no deals were made. I'm considering looking at some others out of state next weekend.
Now I need you guys to talk me outta this idea....my current 2wd truck is paid for. A lady I work...
Grassland, a regear has always been in my mind as a must do. I value low speed torque over maximum highway MPG. Most trucks I've test driven would all be a better off road rig if they had some better gearing. My current truck is a 2wd , 4.6 2v with 3.73 gears on factory tire size. I've thought...
Back to Overland trucks......Have any of you upgraded the factory LSD to a TrueTrac? I keep reading good things about these. From what I have read they engage quicker than the factory LSD. Also because they are gear driven rather than clutch they last almost forever. They also don't require air...
I live in a small town. Our local store has a limited selection. There is a much bigger store about an hour away from me that carries a bigger variety. Next time I'm out that way, I'll definitely look for it. I sure enjoy talking Whisky with folks who aren't caught up in hype, price and...
Grassland, I finally got around to reading through your thread. Some really neat trips you put that F150 through. Great pictures also. But for God sakes man please upgrade those sleeping bags. Made me cold just reading it!
If my vote counts for anything, I say stick with the tested and proven...
I was referring to both Canadian Club or Crown Royal....Can't say I've ever seen a bottle of Tangle Ridge. If I do spot one, I'm willing to give it a try based on your endorsement ;)
I've never been that blow hard at the campsite that flashes his high dollar bottle of booze around and claims...
Your right, Brandy isn't a whisky or a whiskey. Above Post edited.... I mentioned it only because Brandy gets brought up often when discussing spirits...
Maybe I can work her into my rotation and see if she grows on me!
Ahhh Whisky, one of my favorite subjects. I have a small pocket note pad with my own reviews in there. Pretty basic things like flavor notes or texture...I've never been one of those snobs that could taste things like "orange-currant" like some of the internet reviews! Mostly I try not to get...
I've been thinking about Fiberglass shells vs Racks. Has anyone here ever used the shells that have storage bins in place of the side windows ?
It seems like that would allow you to have certain items accessible and easy to reach like a rack system. Any negatives to that setup ?
Thanks
If your a Scotch guy, give Oban 14 a try. It's a Highland whisky with just a small touch of the Islay style smokiness. Easily my personal favorite for special occasions!
.
Bknudtsen, thanks for that suggestion. I looked up those components and it's actually a really nice system! The price isn't bad either.
I still like how the Leitner rack can be outfitted with storage pods and other accessories that are easy to reach. That doesn't seem possible with the Yakima...
The contractor rack isn't what I had in mind.
I agree. Those gimmicky roof baskets people love to put on top of a truck cab to serve no useful purpose look like crap. I also never understood why anyone would put an oversized spare tire way up there.
Maybe the word rack is confusing, when I...
Does anyone use a roof rack setup that runs the entire length of the top ? For longer items such as fishing rods, the ability for me to carry them up top on a rack would be ideal.
Also, has anyone mounted auxiliary lighting to the inside of there camper shell?
