Agreed, the only offered engine that might work for us is the P400. Last I checked it was a $12K adder that as pointed out comes with many options. I think we backed into a cost adder of roughly $7-8K for the MHEV 6-cyl. That's stupid. Maybe the global recession will reset LRs product offerings.

My Disco I with a 4.0 small block Buick is rated to tow ...... 7700 lbs. ...... LOL It worked, slowly, for a small mid-80s popup of roughly 1500 lbs. I was ALWAYS downshifting. My seat of the pants data over-rules any manicured ski slope report.

For us the vehicle requirement to tow is the ideal. The travel trailer is 19', relatively small, and becomes our base camp from which we explore/travel/etc. We can disperse camp for 3 to 4 days, hit an improved camp for resupply, and continue on for weeks. The tow vehicle is dual purpose, strong...

5K lbs for truck, 5K lbs for a trailer. Pretty standard total load, even a little light. 2.0L is too small.

Actually he makes several excellent points that I can personally confirm. The DII traction control did suck, marketing departments do closely manage for perception, not functionality, and events are 'groomed', just like ski slopes.

Agreed. My point was a 2.0l 4-cyl isn't a viable option for towing at altitude. It's just too small to move 10K lbs (5,000+5,000) over Monarch pass, efficiently and at good pace. The price adder for the MHEV 6cyl is stupid.

I might be interested in a 3l diesel. I'm definitely not interested in a 2l gas. EV's are marketed on instant acceleration, torque from very low speed.

Hoping the relaxation of fuel efficiency requirements help LR move forward with a 6cyl diesel at a $1500 adder vs the MHEV at roughly $8K or more?

Consumers don't want tanks. They want good towing and good fuel efficiency from a high energy density fuel. My son's 84 RRC retro'd with a 4 cyl Isuzu diesel pulls like a train and gets 35 mpg. My other son's Cummins 5.9L diesel is a workhorse that beats the gas equivalents. There are paper...

Depends on what you are doing. Quick off the line acceleration that manufacturers use to sell vehicles? Well HP. Max towing capability of 250 and 350 class trucks? Well Torque. For towing, what's more important, horsepower or torque? ".......Let's look at the differences between two truck...

Yup. Towing is all about high torque coming in early and flat across the power band such that engine stress is low while fuel economy is good.

Thanks for the review! Always welcome. Interesting perspective on the engine performance differences. I'm not surprised.

My point was for towing and at altitude. Altitude as in 8,000 to 10,000 ft, on average. It's all about torque, not hp.

I would think the 4cyl 2.0L would struggle at altitude and/or towing. Would like to see a torque curve but its already down 25% from the LR4 V8 and altitude will reduce that another 20%.

LOL. As a current LR and former Jeep owner trail reality is the open cage Jeep on 35's with bikini girls in party mode while the girl wrapped up in scarfs stating she wouldn't bring her LR4 "up here".

Agreed, my 98 D1 has been a great truck ..... for a LR owner. Not sure that's true for the general populace who were really looking for a SUV. The D1 leaks oil and power steering fluid and did need the usual brakes, cv's, starter, fuel pump, radiator clean out and a tranny rebuild over it's 170K...

Not a perspective on the new Luxury Defender and applies to all Jaguar Land Rovers: As predicted JLR is seeking 'significant' partnerships, maybe even a complete sale. SARS-2 and the global economic implostion/debt bubble popping will accelerate the trajectory. Jaguar Land Rover owner to spin...

The JD Power may be surveys but the forums are mostly used for people to ********** about their issues. No issues? Well no comments. Honestly, could care less about a JD Power survey. My point infotainment is that it was near the bottom of our list of must have's, almost off the list. Does it have a...
