Chopshop is a show that, amongst other places, were featured on Discovery here. It features a Cockney mechanic and a Bangladesian "car designer" who in collaboration chops ordinary cars and styles them in Bangla manner. Very low-tech and insane amounts of putty!
I finally got through to a guy in Michelin who could help me with the XZL 11.00/R16:victory:
They're not availiable here, in Scandinavia or Germany.
But they could order them on special delivery from France. So far, so good! Three weeks delivery but that's okay!
The price: 1,075 USD per tire...
Well I have talked to Michelin here twice, they don't even have the XZL 11.00/R16 in their intern catalogue! And haven't been able to tell me anything! Then I talked to a tire dealer, who called michelin, and he got the same result...
I've just searched every Danish Michelin site and they list...
Bump!
Just in case somebody hase the perfect idea.
A brief sum up:
I need expedition worthy tyres!
Needs:
Original rims are 16"
Other rims have to be specially made. No aftermarket rims availiable
GVW will be around 3,500Kgs distributed on six wheels
Tyres must be between 37" and 38,5" in...
Load capacity is not an issue. We plan on a GVW on 3,500 kgs.
But gearing is, that's why I would prefer the 11.00R16 over the 255/100R16
But I found a lot of info on the 255/100R16 that might be handy to others:
Michelin reference 110650
Unique point 134/128 J
Nominal load per axle -...
LOOOL I like the Porsche analogy!
Well the 335/80R20 might be a bit too big, it would only leave 16 mm's or 0.6 inches between the tires of the rear axles... What I was thinking was the 10.5R20, or in metric 275/80R20, might be a good option. They have a desent sidewall but might be more stable...
I started considering Unimog rims, if they could be rebuildt to suit the Volvo bolt pattern and by pure luck I found a place that can make any rim from 16" to 20" I want!
So now the question is if it would'nt be better to use 20" wheels for an expedition vehicle, less rubber means less...
There's a new Volvo on Ebay. It looks good!
But it's located here in Denmark:

Actually I'm not convinced that aluminium is more damage-resistant that fibe-glass.
Just today I talked to a guy who had built campers using both. And he said that alumunium was morew fragile and almost unrepairable at the same time. If you get a dent there's just one option, replace the panel...
Take a look at http://www.trog.us/ for inspiration. That is a beautiful and mammoth build.
I have just completed a servo mod on ours and have just made a linkage system to operate the Toyota (Aisin really) R150F gearbox from the cab. Next big thing will be installing the Toyota 1KZ-T engine.
I do not have anything against the idea of using a Wnakel engine. I love it when peoble think out of the box, so I say go for it!
I myself prefer Herr Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel contraption over Herr Felix Heinrich Wankels in our application though... I would dread having to rely on exotic...
That would be really great! I have called Michelin here twice and each time they have told me that they'll call back. But never has!
So it would be great if you could get some info on the subject.
That's true! Only thing is I don't have the money for it... right now nor any time soon...
And there's lots of other things that need to be bought for our project... If I had a gazillion tons of pure gold I would build the sweetest expedition truck:
Titanium frame
Carbon fibr...

Hi Koos
That is a classic!
No, I haven't... well it's ok actually, we haven't fitted the engine yet so there's plenty of time...
Hi Bas
Wauw yeah! That is expensive. Especially when we need 7 or 8 of them!
