Coil springs, oh ya! :)
I spend a lot of time on setup when I do these builds, as long as it takes. It is important to get everything squared up, centered and level.
Everything has to be test fitted.
Even our 2007+ wide nose conversion. ;)
Before body mounts can be built the engine...
Welding frame back together.
To cover the splice.
Welded up and first round of clean up with the grinder.
Strip the chassis out from under the body.
Body setup to roll the new stretched 80 chassis under it and start building body mounts.
Rolling the new 80 chassis under it...
Work began on stripping the 80 chassis.
Once the chassis was stripped, move it in the shop. At this time I just had a little one bay shop.
Cut all the 80-series body mounts off the 80 chassis.
Troopy is 5" longer for wheel base than an 80. So we extended the chassis 5". To do this we...
Got a pretty cool project going in the shop.
Little back story,
I found this 1993 HZJ75 Troopy in Latin America back in 2017. It had been left for dead mostly but couldn't be imported at that time for over a year. So I kind of just forgot about it and put it back burner.
Fast forward about...
1993 HZJ75 Troopy being out on an 80-series chassis with an L92 6.2L v8 and 6L80e auto. Oh and it is getting a 2007+ 70-series wide nose as well.
Cheers
The front coil spring conversion is mostly completed. The axle housing and a few related parts are out for powder coating. These pics were my final set up before sending the parts out for coating.
Rear axle is mostly completed. Just need to drop in the 3rd member with the new Harrop...
Both front and rear axles are getting powder coated. The rear is torn down and pretty much ready to go to the powder coat shop next week. Once I am all done with fab on the front it will get powder coated as well. Parts will be powder coated separate and on final assembly I will install the...
So it has been a busy year for me. I did a big build on an FJ40 over the summer. As soon as that was done I started in on the PZJ70.
A number of flakes who said, I'l be up this weekend to get the truck, meant I had the 70-series for awhile. I eventually sold it to a guy I am doing to HDJ81...
Ya to much backspacing can cause scrub.
Best to compare stock to stock. Suspension has nothing to do with turning radius, it is all in the knuckle and CV and it is adjustable. IIRC Toyota is 30-33* or there abouts (across the board for SFA) for knuckle inclination. You can adjust them a bit...
I sold this truck awhil eback, the new owner is having me do a bunch of stuff to it. Converting the front suspension to coil springs, Dynamat the whole truck, lockers and much more.
Cheers
