Hi. The overall length of the box is 6800mm and the interior measurement is 6084mm. Yes, I have detailed drawings with measurements but they are proprietary and I'm not allowed to share those. I'm sure if you contacted SLRV and asked for information on the Acela 6x6 box, they'd be happy to give...
We have every intention of exploring Canada. My wife and I are Canadians. We lived in Toronto until 1990 when we moved to the Virgin Islands in the Caribbean. We lived there for 30 years before going to California. We spent many weekends winter camping in Northern Ontario, Killarney Park, to...
Hi. Acela and Grigsby Truck both have a rear cab prep option. Looking at the drawing from Acela, is looks like a 15" gap between cab and box. The two spare tires will go to the rear lift.
We do not have a cassette toilet. We will have a cassette tank stored in case we need to empty the black holding tank in a place without a dump site. We looked at every toilet option. Incinerator, cassette, holding tank and compost. For North America, where we will be for the first year, dump...
The top storage on the cab is not accessible inside. Dimensions are 77"x39"x12". The rear boxes (two of them) each measure 31"x23"x14". All tanks are internal. Heating is via diesel heater. Here are a couple of shots of the roof box on the cab.
The GVWR is 44,640 lbs. Curb weight of the 6x6 is 19,600 lbs. Approximate weight of box with liquids 14,300 lbs. The sat dish is in the rear and facing in the direction of least resistance so I'm not too worried.
Water tankage will be determined more accurately when the chassis arrives. Right...
That's a tough question. There are many, many quality builders just as there are many, many beautiful women. How did I choose the woman that became my wife? You can date 20 beautiful, intelligent women yet there’s always one that’s perfect...for you! I guess that’s how we picked SLRV. It’s...
Yes, there will be a cab to cabin access. It's not in the drawings. They are waiting to get the chassis in their shop so they can figure out exactly where the cut will be. This is their first Acela chassis.
We wanted a diesel generator originally but with the 6x6, the extra two wheels took away a bunch of rail space. Since the Acela comes with only a 58 gallon tank, we'll need to switch to a bigger one on the passenger side and add another on the driver side to get about 150 gallons. SLRV suggested...
OK, a new build. We ordered an ex military vehicle, an M1088 from Acela last August. We went with the 6x6 for its heavier carrying capacity and ability to go to more remote places. It was completed in early December. The wheelbase was a little short so we needed to stretch it another 31 inches...
I've been watching the prices too. Anything with a motor (car, boat, plane, RV) will depreciate at least 50% by the fourth year. Earthroamer's have held their prices because there are not a lot on the used market. I priced a new one with all the options including air ride and MPT81's and it came...
We carry all the required basics. But because we usually go on our trips alone, we always carry our tent, sleeping bags, freeze dried food and extra water. Oh, and we always bring our satellite phone with us.
Roof rack brackets
I saw this rig at the Overland Expo. The ARB roof rack is bolted through the roof and is supported by custom made brackets on the interior roll cage. I've been looking for a system like this for my JK. Who made the brackets and where can I get a set?
Tracks4Africa is the way to go. I've downloaded Namibia and Botswana. They have turn by turn directions for Garmin. They also have a MAC computer conversion. Plus tons of info for fuel, camping, B&B's, sights etc, etc.
