Nicely done. I was considering building a fold-down table in that area on mine to complement the tailgate, but I quickly learned that area is constantly covered in trail dust to the point you don't wan to touch anything. Perhaps a result of the long-standing drought here in the west, but we're...
To those of us in the west, anything east of the Mississippi is the rust belt. Maybe anything east of the continental divide!
FWIW, I'm in the boating world and I'm SHOCKED at how much more corrosion and other related problems boats from FL have compared to west coast boats. I have always...
I would be interested to know what the basic ground clearance is on both trucks. One problem I've envisioned with coils is the loss of lifted height for a heavy truck. As an example, I'm still on air so I retain my same heights even though my rig comes in over 7500 lbs loaded. A coil truck...
I'm not unhappy enough to drop $1500+ to replace it! Besides, you don't want my bumper...your truck is too nice looking for my old trail bashed stuff. :)
BTW, if you've been on the NCLR site recently you'll see a group of us are doing Signal Peak again Saturday. You should come along! We'll...
I'd have to dig back through your old posts, but I seem to remember you got this rig really cheap, right? Like $7500? Maybe less?
I think that's the root of your problems. That and living in the rust zone I suppose re: swaybar failure.
A friend of mine recently saw an LR3 for sale with an...
The gap around the bodywork is typical of all the bolt-on bumpers I've seen - look at some of the Kaymars and they have the same big gaps.
On the plus side it may help protect the tail lights when you take a big drop and wack the bottom of the bumper. But mostly I think it's down to the...
If you could claim any manufacture has mods in mind during production, I'd have to pick Jeep and Harley. But even then I'm not sure how much the factory guys are really thinking about such things. And I'm not likely to buy either (I run Rovers and Triumphs :) )
Ah yes, I don't think the magic there was so much the lift as he had drop brackets made for the diffs. That allowed him to run more lift without compromising CV angles. If the D5 uses a similar approach to diff mounting this could be an option. It does compromise clearance somewhat but it's...
I'm not looking for a 'rock crawler', as that conjures up images of buggies on 40s going up 6' vertical faces. I do want something as capable as a stock JK Rubicon that can be mod'ed to for more serious terrain much like a Rubi. All the things you mentioned are good but I'd be looking for them...
The biggest problem with the LR3/4 platform off-road is the poor rocker height and break over clearance. Well that and the ‘road hugging' weight. And the inability to fit decent size tires. Wait…where was I? Oh yeah, angles.
So let's compare LR3 vs D5
Approach 37.2* vs 29.5*...
I don't have any rubbing issues with the coolant bottle in the ARB bumper location with my 33s, but I'm running an LR3 so it may be slightly different (?) on your LR4.
I did have to do a little judicious trimming of the front inner fender liners, but I just took an air saw and buzzed off...
I should mention just in case some don't know, the aluminum lines behind the plastic fender liner on the right side are just coolant lines for the rear HVAC. You will spill a little coolant when you open them but it's a pretty straight forward job.
The AC tubes are pretty easy to deal with. On mine I was able to bend them around out of the way, but you are likely to Crack them in the process. The good news it you can just replace them with 5/8 heater hose and route them anywhere you want. If you follow the hard lines you'll find joints...
I wash my LR3 periodically. :)
Actually, it has a ton of pin-striping but I do try to get a decent polish/wax on it every year or so. I've belen able to avoid any real body damage so far, though all my armor has been well and truly abused and my wheels are rashed to high heavens. I don't...
