    Heat Guard for Synthetic Line

I'm no expert on electric winches, but I seem to remember soemthing about drum heat only being a problem on winches that use a brake to control power out? If that's correct, then I imagine that only those that use a spur gear rather than a worm would be a problem. I might well be wrong, and...

Don't let the office manager catch you taking it, though.

    School me on hand winches...

There have been quite a few thread on this topic, some recently. But my view is that there's not much benefit to having a big, heavy tirfor. At the end of the day, all the pulling is done by your arms! The additional mechanical advantage that gives the bigger hand-winch its higher pull rating is...

ARB winch Extension Vs. additional synthetic line

I agree. You do need a harness, but sometimes an extra long one is a disadvantage. I'd still opt for a rope extension there, rather than a looooong harness/strap.

I wouldn't get too worried about the safety aspect of the chain breaking. Just make sure you tether it. Use some good quality, lightweight line, tie one end to the jack, and thread it through a few links all the way up the length of the chain. Tie the other end to something else (the bumper...

Yes, a Salisbury axle can break!

Came across this story-in-pictures accidentally, and found it interesting. (Apologies if it's already been posted here!) http://www.flickr.com/photos/hannes_v_rensburg/sets/72157602859193960/

This looks promising - crashed 2004 TD5 manual with 120K on the clock: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Land-Rover-Discovery-TD5-Damaged-Repairable-Salvage-/230476005930?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item35a970c22a I'm sure you could negotiate on price. And get them to slice it in half, if you...

If you imported a front end from the UK, you would presumably include a good few extra/spare parts too, new or used, as they are so cheap and plentiful here. I can see you now, trawling through the Paddocks website....

    TD5 or 300TDI into a NAS D2?

UK mpg, of course! Equates to 25mpUSg. Pretty good, but most people don't do that well, looking at the various forums. I got more like 24-26 (about 21 US) overall consumption on mine, which is still ok. My Defender 130 gets 21 (17 US!) no matter how I drive it, or what load it has, but I don't...

I am sure they must roll up! Or come in sections, I suppose. Else how would dealers get them delivered, keep them stored etc.?

An air cylinder lifting aid to raise Eagle pop-up top

With air, the pressure will just rise to suit the weight (to a maximum, of course). Handy for you as you sometimes store things like your canoes on top of the pop-top. Also, sometimes the problem with springs or gas or a crank is that they can be progressive if not designed perfectly. In other...

ARB winch Extension Vs. additional synthetic line

Fair enough - I can sympathise! Yes, basically, there is no cross-over. For towing, an element of stretch is essential, as there will always be some shock loading, no matter how smoothly you try to make the tow. (If you are doing snatch recovery, then of course it's all about stretch, so you...

I'd definitely go with the whole front end, if you're going to the trouble of shipping. In fact, why not all the bits? You need the TD5, R380, and console bits, and maybe it would be useful to have the LT230 already bolted on, and why not a couple of spare axles complete with diffs, a couple of...

    Air pressure

Why? The suspension is designed to soak up the bumps. And tyres are not designed to run at low pressures. I would agree that for washboard, it's sensible to keep the tyres at the low side of normal pressures, but no tyre manufacturer (or car maufacturer) would recommend running at 20psi, except...

    Chinese Military Shovel WJQ-308

ARB winch Extension Vs. additional synthetic line

I prefer the idea of a proper extension of synthetic rope. It gives you more options when rigging, as it will go through snatchblocks, as you point out. But take both :) Straps/ropes suitable for winching won't be suitable for towing due to the total lack of stretch.

Rob, maybe you should look at something like this: I am sure you could get one including an R380 too. And maybe any console bits. Then it's just a matter of hooking up the computers... I guess the issue is the importation?
