I don't mind the gray hard tops and think they look great on some Jeeps. In my case though I have soft and hard half door uppers that are black. I run my LJ with full doors in the winter but for the short time that I do run it with half doors and the hard top it doesn't look right. I plan...
Are gray hard tops unique to 2005? I have a '04 LJ with a gray top but it was installed by a previous owner. Mine did not come with a hard top when it was purchased new.
This a real problem in Ontario. You can get a licence for home made trailer for a one time cost of $25 that's good for life. You don't have to provide any plans, photos, material list, axle info, lighting details, etc. It could have a chassis made out of 2"x4"s for all they know. I...
I just picked up one of these at Princess Auto for $40 and it works great. The platform is 12"x16" and it folds flat for easy storage. I have it at the second lowest setting so it could handle larger tires than the 245/75/16's I currently have on my XJ.
That looks like a good foundation for an off road trailer. It appears to be similar in size and shape to what I started with and am "almost" finished.
Good luck with your build.

TexasTJ - I have a TJ & a LJ and use both for the same basic things that you would. I definitely prefer the LJ because of the extra cargo space and towing capacity. I also like the longer wheel base for highway travel. The rear seat is always out in both so I can't comment on access issues...
Nice job on the XJ jonb8 and I'm really enjoying your tear drop build. I'm finishing off an expedition trailer build and plans and parts acquisition are well under way to follow up with a tear drop to be towed behind my XJ. I'll be following this!
I used to build and race off road cars in the early to mid '70s while in college and shortly after. I left that and got into car restoration and although I have no regrets I kind of wish I had stuck with it now that I'm into Jeeps. It was a good education in design and fabrication plus basic...
Great build! Is the "black trim with an insert molding" you're referring to the trim between the walls and the roof? It looks great and presumably is a good seal. Do you have more details on this and a Canadian source? Thanks.
I bought a 4"x6" band saw in the '80s and was always happy with it except for when I had to cut an angle on a long piece of stock. I had to angle the vice of course but I usually had to move the saw around as well due to my lack of floor space. I bought a swivel head band saw and that solved...
jhill15 - I don't want to hijack your thread but here's a picture of it. I used SportRack(s) for my kayaks and CCM bike racks - all bought used off of Kijiji. Both sets of racks are for car/van/etc. roof tops and I'm sure almost any brand of racks could be used. The cross bars are...
