Thanks. (y)
Here are a few pics. Again, not the best paint job but OK for a hobbyist and for the type of use they will get. They're both covered in snow right now! :) I drive the LJ through the winter.
The paint is Tremclad "Gloss Grey". I am pretty sure you can get it locally at...
Not a van and much smaller but I decided to paint my Jeep LJ and trailer myself. Both will take a bit of a beating and are likely to be modified in some way, so I didn't want to take them in for a "proper" paint job.
I used Tremclad which is a single stage enamel. Tremclad is a Rustoleum...
Further to my post above (#3,257) I just finished painting my Jeep LJ, so I thought I'd include a pic of it with the trailer too. I shot them both in the same grey and similar matching black trim. I still have lots to do on the LJ but at least they are together.
I camp with 2 different Jeeps and 2 different trailers, so I move equipment around as needed. The fridge is always in a Jeep and away from where I sleep. I cook outside of the trailers and the fridge is always close by.
I stopped using a sink or wash tub a few years ago and went with a...
I started out with something similar to yours. It's gone through 2 iterations so my build (in my signature below) may be of some use to you. A lot of course depends on what you want to carry, how you want to use it, whether you're doing the work or farming it out, etc. It looks like a great...
I kicked around a few ideas before I landed on a hitch mounted tire carrier for my XJ. I had a pair of JCR bumpers and thought I'd modify the rear one. My only problem was the weight. Although I never weighed them the 3/16" plate construction was a bit too much for my needs.
I also...
Great thread! Surprised I haven't seen it sooner. Love my XJ! I'm on my 3rd one going back to 1990. Not continuous XJ ownership during that time but more than half of it. (y)
The term Jeep used for the XJ was "uniframe" which I guess they felt sounded stronger than unibody. All Cherokees from the XJ on are unibodies and there are various weld on kits available to stiffen the frame rails. I've had many I6 4.0 litre motors and have never had any issues...
Now we're talking! ;) I have an LJ and an XJ plus a few other Jeeps and can tell you that I have a lot more room in my XJ. Neither are highly modified and as it they are both fairly capable.
I use blocks but to get me in the ball park upon arrival I attached a bubble level to the back side of my glove box door. It's pretty accurate when the door is open and the Jeep is sitting on level ground. I took this pic in my driveway which slopes back to the road. Don't read too much...
I think most DIYers look closely at retail trailers for design ideas. Other DIY builds too of course. I certainly did for the 2 that I have built. You'd like to think the manufacturers usually get it right BUT based on the one I bought (post #5 above) I found out first hand they don't...
I usually don't care about that. The info is still relevant and it's just coming back to the top. I appreciated @texman 's pic as it points out a problem, especially to someone who plans to build his own trailer. @michaelclark has posted a few times and both seem legit.
