I have a good 10m antenna with a magnetic base but I have yet to hear any activity on 10m. I am not a huge fan of the quad band antennas as they seem to be somewhat fragile and are a compromise in performance. So, as you suggested I'll be getting a 5\8 wave dual band mast and use it on the mag...
Thanks folks! Looking forward to getting out there as soon as my callsign is issued. I currently have a pair of the 8w baofeng HTs and a TYT th-9800 quad band radio. Trying to figure out an antenna solution that is durable and doesn't make the 80 look like a pin cushion.
Studied off and on for a month or so for the tech, found out last week I could take the general at the same time and started studying on Monday. Helps to have a background in fiddling with electronics, but overall not hard on either test. Looking forward to getting my call sign in a few days...
I can vouch for Aaron--He is a stand-up guy and an active duty Marine Officer. This will be an excellent addition to his truck if you will hold it for him.
Cheers!
Dan
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but unless you are going to do more with it than what you stated, a 1st gen Sequoia (2005-2007w VVTI) would be a far better option and would cost you a lot less. They are easier to find as well. Your limiting factor will be space on the 100. If you go with a 2+2+2...
This bike ended up being too aggressive for my daughter to ride, so I am passing it on.

-9 speed Dura-ace drive train with Ultegra brakes
-ITM ergo bars

Not following. A 50th anniversary will be a 2007. You are saying that an 03 will be 5k more than an 07? Did you mean 40th anniversary? If so, the 40th anniversary is an 80 series--lots to like there, but it is a completely different animal than the Hundy.
Hi folks,
I have for sale a twice used Hypertech controller for 2007-2012 GM vehicles with the 6.2L engine. Works great for increasing fuel mileage and checking engine codes. This is the econ model with the enhanced fuel mileage settings, but you can download the full software from hypertech...
If towing is the intended use, the 570 wins. The extra wheelbase is a plus, as is the more powerful engine. That said, if AHC is a concern, just get a 200 series land cruiser--should be more affordable than both and is plenty luxurious.
I agree with this except I use Map my ride--it has less users and it is easier to be a big fish in a smaller pond! Not that I go any faster, there just isn't as much competition.
Substitute all of your 100k figures for 200k figures and this could have been about Land Cruisers....
How many 300k LR3s are out there? I am sure there are a few, but the GX has an identical drivetrain to a 100 series and there are a lot of those that have smashed through 300k...
You might look into a cross bike or a gravel grinder also--you can extend your range quite a bit and take advantage of the pavement as well...
As far as your bike goes, I'd also advise to ride it as is--only look elsewhere when you feel held back by the machine.
Some folks have built the GXs, but the parts to do so are not really readily available--you'll have to do some custom work. LR3s are better supported with bolt ons. That said, I'd take the GX any day of the week but I'd get the non fancy suspension version so you can go with a standard OME...
Just get an early 90s/late 80s steel framed bike on CL for 200 dollars and spend the rest of your budget on gear. Those bikes are relatively easy to find in the 63/64 cm range, usually have rack eyelets already, are easily upgradeable to modern components (if you don't like down tube shifters)...
Little late to the party here, but two thoughts:
First, riding a XC bike more will make it more comfortable/make you more comfortable with it--your body can get used to multiple riding positions. I ride 4 different road bikes and a mountain bike--only two of them are close to the same riding...
What is your current dd?
I'd keep it and use it as a camping/wheeling rig as long as you have the space for 3 vehicles. You can get another 2000 with similar miles for under 10k easy. Use the excess to repair this one. I would advise against selling the current dd either way. If you can only...
