    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

I wonder why it varies so much between the same trim. I have a neighbor with a Platinum (SuperCrew) and he’s at 1,450.

    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

Supercab only 1300?? I’ve never seen it that low. Didn’t know they killed the hdpp option. Regardless, if I’m going on a camp trip with the family, I take the F150. Mine’s a few years old (2020), XLT, Supercrew with 1900lb payload. Bed full of stuff for a week and she drives just fine on and...

    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

No, regular cabs can get up over 3k lbs. I’m talking about SuperCrew 4wd’s. What dealers sell 90% of the time. None are near 1,200lbs, unless you’re talking about Raptors. Even those are more like 1,500. Lots in the 2-2,900lbs (ones in the upper part of that range have the hd payload package).

    Balancing Payload capacity vs. Offroad

Not that I completely disagree, but on the point of 1/2 tons driving “like trash” when loaded up, I don’t agree with. Especially on-road, where the bulk of most folk’s travel mileage is. F150’s can have 2000-2,900lb payload. That’s a lot of weight you can carry. I’ve not had issues when under...

Ram 3500 - Spare tire options for 37s.

Hmm… I still don’t understand how slapping a flat tire on a rim changes the distance traveled. Rolling a bare rim next to a rim with a flat tire on it, the bare rim will spin faster? And still doesn’t explain the indirect TPMS system, either. My conclusion is that a flatter tire definitely...

Ram 3500 - Spare tire options for 37s.

rruff- I’m still not convinced but I’m not arguing that I’m right either. 😁 I’m just really curious to myth bust this and get to the bottom of it. That video was good but wish they would’ve used a bigger than a 27” tire. I don’t know if there was any meaningful data that could be gathered with...

Anyone 'daily' or do a lot of miles in a Grenadier?

This with 5-digit mileage now, how has it been? My wife is really wanting one, which I’m trying to dissuade her from. She does not offroad. And if we do, we’re taking my Jeep or the old Sequoia. I’d imagine daily driving it wouldn’t be as comfortable as her Toyota Highlander. Or as practical.

Ram 3500 - Spare tire options for 37s.

But aspect ratio is part of the “radius.” ie On a tire size, the aspect ratio is the middle number (275/70/18). 275mm tread width, 70 is the aspect ratio (to the tread) and 18 is the rim diameter.

This is what makes sense to me in my head.

Ram 3500 - Spare tire options for 37s.

Still doesn’t make sense to me (I’m hard headed 😂). ie Some TPMS detects an under inflated tire by using the speed sensor. Meaning, if it’s rotating at a faster speed than specified tire size, warning pops up. This is because the effective diameter (or radius) or rolling circumference is...

Ram 3500 - Spare tire options for 37s.

But decreasing the diameter also decreases the circumference. If I’m thinking about that right. Same tire at 15 psi will sit lower than a tire at 40psi. Effective diameter/circumference will be smaller.

    Thoughts on a GMT900 or a K2 platform?

I went through the same quandary years ago and ended up with a 2nd gen Sequoia. It’s my daily driver but I do take it camping in UT, CO, AZ, NV, usually traveling on dirt roads. It’s been great for what I use it for. Lots of space for the family and cargo. And surprisingly capable off road. I...

Ram 3500 - Spare tire options for 37s.

Yup 👍 I’m a bit more tolerant of delays as I see it as part of the adventure. Machine or man, there’s always bound to be breakdowns. Im not saying I go unprepared. But I refuse to pay $4k for a trophy hitch or custom bumper with so much weight hanging off of it. Chances of failure are minimal...

Ram 3500 - Spare tire options for 37s.

I’m of the same thought (if the scenario is X size tire won’t fit in the stock location). Slightly undersized tire should get you to a tire shop. You could also slightly increase the PSI in the spare (relative to the other tires) to get the overall diameter about the same.

    Ram power wagon value?

That would be a nice first drive with the truck! Lots of cool things to see along the way.

Gas. Either ford and ram would be fine. Chevy is good, too.
