Be careful with all these proposed GN conversions. Many FW trailer manufacturers won't warranty their frame if you use a GN adapter. The added leverage of the adapter puts additional stress on the pin box, so they say. I've head many people say they would never consider buying a FW trailer...
IdaSHO, I did weigh my camper dry when I first bought it. That was over 7 years ago but I think it was around 3,400. So, not too far off the sticker I guess.
Chevy offers their double cab which is shorter than a full crew cab. You still get 4 real doors but the back ones and the back seat are smaller. This might make for a slightly shorter and slightly lighter truck than a crew cab if you don't need to put adults in the back seat.
I drove a Chevy 6.0...
My camper is over 11' long. I tow using a Torklilft Superhitch and a Supertruss 48" extension. It takes the entire 48" extension to get the ball back past the rear bumper on the camper. The extension is rated for 6,000 pounds of trailer without a weigh distributing hitch and a 12,000 pound...
Stacking is the term used by all of the manufactures who make inverters with this feature. It's in all their manuals. All their tech support guys use the term. It is the correct term.
I have to call BS on the "weak GM IFS". I've owned '87 S-10 blazzer, '95 GMC Jimmy, '05 3500 dually with Duramax, '07 3500 SRW with Duramax, '01 3500 Dually with 8.1L. I had to replace the a CV joint once on the S-10. I put new tie rod ends, pitman, and idler arm on the '05. That's it.
The...
I hope you ordered the autotransformer with the enclosure. It has a built in fan and circuit breaker. Wiring is pretty simple, just black and red (hot), neutral, and ground.
You absolutely can stack inverters. You just have to have a model that is designed for it. I don't think the OP's inveter is so he would need to buy 2 120v inverters that will stack. Outback FX series will. The older Xantrex and Trace DR and SW series will do it too. Also the Magnum MS4024.
The...
Your fridge would run how many hours a day? I'll guess 8. So you would need 8 hours x 28 watts = 224 Wh. A 20 watt panel would only put out 20 watts under ideal condition: full direct sun and only about 70 degrees. So let's say it puts out 15 watts. You would need 224 Wh / 15 watts = 15 hours of...
What you want doesn't exist. Anything that would fit on the dash is going to have a worthlessly low power output. Something like 20 watts or so at the most.
It would be most helpful to know what kind of fridge we're talking about and how much power it uses.
Either way, a panel of 100 watts or...
Ram offers something like this on a cab and chassis truck. It's intended for the ambulance upfit package I think. It says that it monitors battery voltage and will start or idle up the engine or something to keep the batteries charged up.
As for aftermarket, there are many devices like this used...
Ham radio will likely have the best range but requires an FCC license for every operator.
CB will be the simplest but will have rather limited range.
FRS will be the least expensive equipment, also with limited range but better sound quality that CB.
GMRS also requires a license but there's no...
OP, if your plans are a camper in the bed and a boat in tow you need to skip the "3/4 ton" trucks and look at 3500 series. That's a lot of weight. My crew cab Chevy with the family, the camper, and the boat on the hitch weighed in at 13,100 pounds.
I've owned 4 Chevys: 2 Duramax, 1 8.1L, and 1...
Got mine in a few days. No request for copy of license. I then found out a local ham had a program to generate the pass code. I asked him for a pass code for my wife (who is also licensed). He replied back to my email in a matter of hours with it.
The golf cart battery is the one you want. If the price is right then try them. I pretty much only use Deka batteries and I've had great results with them. Trojan wants too much money for their name. They are good batteries though. I don't know about interstate. I'm not sure I've ever had one.
I've run a larger compressor than yours on an inverter but it was a 3,000 watt unit. I doubt you could run yours on anything less than 2,000. You would also need a huge battery bank and a big alternator on the vehicle and you would need to keep the engine running. It's doable. My work truck is...
I often work in places with no cell phone coverage, sometimes all alone. My wife didn't like that she couldn't get in touch with me all day long if she needed too. I convinced her to get a ham license like I had and now we can keep in touch with 2 meter voice by monitoring the same repeater...
I asked a mechanic friend today about the 4.7 engine. He said he would much prefer the 4.0. He said the 4.7 had some problems with plugged oil screens or passages.
I haven't been able to find much online bad about the engine other than running it hot is very bad. Valve seats falling out from...
So I think I'm about to purchase my first Jeep. I found an '02 Grand Cherokee with 115,000 miles. I think I can get it for around $4,000. I was looking for a 6cyl. but this one has the high output 4.7L V8. What's this engine like for reliability? Obviously it's got plenty of power but how do...
Thanks for all the replies. I guess I was seeing things correctly. The Wranglers hold value like crazy. It's amazing all the other newer 4wd vehicles I could buy for the same money as a used Wrangler. Maybe the Cherokee is the way to go. I never thought about one of those much but it looks like...
