Land Rover Roof Rack Flooring - Red Wood Composite Construction

That is a real advantage of the Farmtek flooring. You can customize it to your particular purpose without engaging in a major modification of the roof rack. Most of the time people carry the same stuff in the same locations for proper weight distribution, so once you figure out where you want...

Wow. That is a professional looking job. I am impressed with the workmanship. Your photos are very helpful. Making a mock up using carboard is a great idea. Congratulations on a beautiful result. Your perch on the roof rack is one of my favorite places on a Land Rover. It's a great place...

Land Rover Roof Rack Flooring - Red Wood Composite Construction

I checked out the waffle board/fiberglass grating for the floor of my roof rack. I drove to Henderson, Nevada (Las Vegas) to the American Grating warehouse. I found some good grating/waffle board that was 1/2 inch deep and 1 1/2 inch square mesh and light grey/charcoal color. The grating was...

Expeditionary Galley / Kitchen from Maxing Out

I rivet metal to metal. The way I achieve it is using a 5 mm flat washer on a 5 mm rivet. I drill the hole in the aluminum angle and wood, insert the rivet, put the flat washer on the far end of the rivet, and then activate the riveting tool. The aluminum rivet pulls up firmly against the...

Expeditionary Galley / Kitchen from Maxing Out

I am always looking for off the shelf solutions that can be adapted to an expeditionary vehicle. I did not want a bunch of wood drawers that are hard for me to build and that would be heavy. I also didn't want to fiddle around with installing eight different sliders. I took the easy way out...

Land Rover Roof Rack Flooring - Red Wood Composite Construction

I tried to look up the weight on the internet, and I could not find a weight on the 69 inch long slats. We cut them to 58 inches for a perfect fit on our Brownchurch rack. They don't weigh that much because they are only .4375 inches thick and 4.75 inches wide. It only required 24 slats to...

Land Rover Roof Rack Flooring - Red Wood Composite Construction

Thanks. Trying to figure out what to put on the rack was harder than doing the job. I have been thinking about the flooring for months, and it was hard to decide. If money and weight were no object, I would have gone with teak. I hope this works out long term, because the price was right.

    Sheepskins Advice

We used sheepskins in our Defender in New Zealand, but they were not cheap. When we camped in the winter in Arabia, we put 2 sheepskins on our cots to keep our backsides warm. It worked wonders.

Expeditionary Galley / Kitchen from Maxing Out

I used the thinnest plywood that I felt would stand up to the abuse. I didn't have to put the vertical plywood section in the middle of the box. I could have simply put the two slider/basket sections side by side and bolted them together. That would have made the installation narrower if I...

Hello from Salt Lake City! New to ExPo.

Interesting. From our time running in Arabia, we never ran with everything locked up on hard surfaces. People used lockers in sand, but that was the only place. In ten years of running in Arabia with other Land Rovers, I have seen one stripped wheel hub, one broken front half shaft, and a...
