Just misc dirt camping and desert running, but I did take this truck and a few other full sizers through Steel Pass in the north end of Death Valley, that’s about the only other “gnarly” thing I’ve done in this truck. Should be pics in my build thread.

I don't consider it the tires that make it less drivable. I take it on 100-150 mile day trips here and there. It actually drives. Nice at 60 on the highway, I the 2 biggest factors in it...

Looks good! I wouldn't worry about lifting the bed, since it's flush with the bottom of the cab. I wouldn't worry too much about departure angle either, I run minimal lift and only 34" tires and I have only drug my bumper a few times. Just make sure and build it with clearance in mind.

Big perk for the mid height, if you build a sleeping platform, you can still sit up in bed and not bang your head. At least that was my experience. I was in the same boat as you with my 2nd gen. And the mid height was the perfect sweet spot.
