Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes

I have a 5200 lbs Dexter axle with electric brakes, parking brake and easy lube options. 6 bolt in a Toyota pattern. It is a 4" drop style . Mounting perches are on both top and bottom of the axle. The hub face to hub face measurement is 74" Spring perches appear to be 16" from the HF. It...

M101A3 Offroad/Expedition Trailer Build - The Vanilla Gorilla

Yes, the last trailer BTC had was a little rough, that's why I passed. I did pick up a different trailer shortly thereafter. Here it is. New axle and wheels should go on this weekend Here is my build page. http://forum.expeditionportal.com/threads/169115-The-Contraption-a-M101A3-Build

M101A3 Offroad/Expedition Trailer Build - The Vanilla Gorilla

Nice - another M101A3 build! I talked to the guys at BCT about the last A3 they had, but I let it go to someone local. Maybe that was you? What are your plans for the Trailer?

    The Contraption - a M101A3 Build

Axle HF to HF is 69" 2" spacers. 315/70/17 tires. The tires should be just inside the fenders. I don't mind the slighter wider stance. Cutting the fenders to 49" apart might be the best of both worlds -- room to lay full sheet material flat and close to JKU track.

    The Contraption - a M101A3 Build

Got my new axle My wheel spacers showed up, and I finally was able to pick up my new axle from the FedEx freight yard. Unfortunately, the axle came without the parking brake option I ordered unless Dexter no longer puts the brake lever/flange on for a parking brake. I will be talking to Nuera...

    Telescoping RTT Rack Design Question

That might be a nice way to keep some of the crud out of the tubes. Thanks.

    Telescoping RTT Rack Design Question

That looks great! Thanks for posting. I couldn't quite see in the pictures what is on the backside of the lock pins. Are those the mounts for the gas struts? Do the lock pins go all the way through both the inner and outer tube?

    Telescoping RTT Rack Design Question

Here are a couple of pics of the current setup. My next dilemma is that the existing rack is made with rectangular tubing, and I have not been able to find telescoping rectangular tubing. My initial thought was to cut the uprights at the tub top rail and weld on new smaller rectangular...

    Telescoping RTT Rack Design Question

Hey now - I did not think of the securing issue, but it makes complete sense! Thanks. Would you mind posting a picture of your trailer rack? BTW, I love the mid 60s CJs.

    Telescoping RTT Rack Design Question

I currently have a fixed rack on my trailer that is too high for my taste, and I want to go to a telescoping rack to have a low position for transit and the ability to raise it at the campsite to take advantage of the RTT annex. Most of the telescoping racks I seen have the larger tubing on the...

    The Contraption - a M101A3 Build

I used the Mopar 7 way round trailer connector wiring harness that is made specific for the JK. It is plug and play for lights and has heat shielding in all the necessary spots along the run under the Jeep to the battery. The P3 controller did not have a JK plug and play option, so it was plug...

    Ursa Minor Pop-Top Jeep JK

My thoughts after having our J30 for 3 years: You will want to upgrade the suspension if you are still running stock. Once you do that, the J30 doesn't really take away from the ride and drive of the jeep. While it is cozy with my wife and me in it, it is still comfortable for us. We are in...

    The Contraption - a M101A3 Build

Thanks for the link, M1078. I had not seen that one. What a great build. Since my power system is on the front burner now, I liked seeing his simple and clean power system install.

    The Contraption - a M101A3 Build

I sorted out the "output short" reading I was getting on the P3 controller after I rewired the trailer brakes (I had cut the trailer brake wires when we took the axle off last week). It was caused by the plug not being completed locked in place. All fixed now. Here is a shot of it hooked up...

    The Contraption - a M101A3 Build

Yikes! I hope you heal quickly. I guess you'll just have to do more research and accumulate parts while you recuperate!

    The Contraption - a M101A3 Build

It should be here around the middle of the month. It took a couple of extra days after we measured to finalize an order. The distance between the spring perches and the hub faces was calling into question the weight rating of the axle. Apparently anything over a 23" difference can lower the...

    The Contraption - a M101A3 Build

I like truck caps on these trailers. Our plans at this point include the axle swap, and figuring out a way to connect the parking brake to the two OE handles. Then once the trailer is at the height I want it, I'll look to shorten the tongue while still allowing a full swing of the tailgate...
