Suspension system for coolers in truck bed.

My favorite solution for problems like this is taller tires, with less pressure in them (and this is probably out of bounds for the discussion, but all the problems I had like this over 200k miles in a Taco with heavy rear leafs - went away entirely when I switched to a vehicle with coil spring...

Ever heard of the "DR.PREPARE 12V 100Ah LiFePO4 Battery with Hub"?

Interesting idea! Haven't seen others with the integrated power in/out box like this. Though I wonder if "Renology" can really stand behind the claimed "10 Year Porduct Support" also, looks like many of the reviews shown there are for a different product porduct which is a huge red flag

    Alu-Cab canopy camper mattress replacement

I have my big dogs upstairs often, due to claws I'm never going to touch an inflatable mattress in the ACCC. I haven't tried a Hest, I'm sure it's quite comfortable. Having spent too many rough nights backpacking with hard-to-fix holes in ultralight inflatable pads, not interested in more...

Odyssey Battery - just purchased with old date code

I had the Diehard Platinum Group 65 that was actually a rebadged Odyssey PC1750T. Put ten HARD years on that battery with zero problems. It only started failing when I got a new truck and stopped charging the Odyssey except a couple times a year. Personally I wouldn't worry about 3 years on...

Apple Adds 2-way Satellite Messaging for iOS 18

IIRC the satellite SOS feature that launched with iPhone 14 in 2022 was initially marketed as "free for two years," so likely we'll find out what that meant this fall. I can't imagine this 2-way mode will be all-you-can-eat free for more than a very short period. Per-message charge, monthly...

Better jack for a long travel suspension an Overlanding vehicle?

I got a Humvee jack for my rig, it's great. I did a post on another forum about it, which I'll link here rather than re-write it: https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/wanda-the-wanderer-jtrd-with-alu-cab-canopy-camper.64951/post-1149293

    Alu-Cab canopy camper mattress replacement

In my previous vehicle I just used custom-cut foam pieces (from a local shop until they closed, then Foam Factory online), like 2-3" of high density base, 2-3" of lower density for comfort. One elastic bottom sheet over the bottom, elastic mattress topper over the top, another elastic bottom...

    Better Bivvy sacks/tents?

I am personally a huge fan of bivy sacks and have used them as my primary backpacking and bike touring shelter, probably over 300? 400? nights by now. If you have never slept in one, it's a little hard to predict how you'll find it. I find it snug, cozy, and relaxing. Many others find it...

    LiFePo packs in unusual shapes?

Hello, I'm building out the power system in my camper (Alu-Cab Canopy Camper on a Jeep Gladiator). And at the moment I'm getting frustrated that the offerings from the most prominent vendors are all shaped exactly like traditional car batteries. I've got a bunch of odd leftover spaces which...

An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

oof yeah, very educational. The trail looks even worse now as another 12 years of erosion have rutted it out more and more. I saw -30° on my own tilt gauge last fall, which can combine with a lot of roll if your line is wrong (like that vid). That's one situation where long wheelbase and rear...

An incident worth talking about. Kinetic Recovery Accident.

Just to clarify, Diablo Drop Off and Heart Attack Hill are two different obstacles on two different trails in Anza-Borrego. Diablo is NBD really, a little steep but I've watched stock vehicles with no lockers drive up it with a little coaching. It's fun. Heart Attack Hill on the Pinyon...

Better jack for a long travel suspension an Overlanding vehicle?

I carry a M998 HMMWV scissor jack. Big base plate for soft ground, dead simple, tons of travel, lovely geared head mechanism. Only thing it needs is a saddle adapter for the round pin head (designed to mate to holes in the HMMWV frame). I made one from a leaf spring axle saddle plate ($10?)...

Hardsider wedge camper out of Ohio

Instagram seems to be where they're actually active. From this post it looks like the frame is all bolted extrusion (see fifth photo): I've looked closely at a bunch of the made-in-china modular campers - to me, everything here looks different and unique. No conclusion possible on...

    Gladiator - Good/Bad?

We're currently on the 3rd-gen EcoDiesel in the current JL/JT/Ram/etc. Not that it doesn't have any problems (CP4.2...) but the 1st and 2nd gen motors had a lot more. Curious which one you had in the Ram (love mine in my JTRD and would not have bought a JT if I couldn't have had the diesel)

Introducing the “NEW” Alu-Cab Canopy Camper

The platform itself is 52” wide. The supplied mattress is 48” wide. Pretty much all of my camping nights are with my lady, and by the end of the night we end up with one large dog between our feet and another in between us. (They’re nominally supposed to sleep on the dog beds on the hatch.)...
