Most pickups don’t have a 3 point frame. Usually U-bolts front and rear with some heavy springs on the front to allow for a little flex. Mine came hard mounted with no issues so far but I do plan on redoing the mounts when I take the camper off for a remodel soon.
I think doing upgrades yourself is a good idea. While I feel fwc does a great job with their shells the are similar to all the other RV manufacturers with the interior quality. You have experience in a camper but sometimes it’s best to just use it and see what needs upgrading.
As far...
No I have the timebomb 6.0 it’s bulletproofed and deleted but still a headache but has only left me on the side of the road once and it was a blown coolant line where the cheap plastic Y broke.
The gas is a 2011. Bone stock Bare bones XL. 65k it might be that I don’t keep the rpms enough when I’m use to the diesel just chugging along. The diesel is tuned and that could be the difference too. I bought the 2011 with the thought of putting the camper and flat bed on it. That’s why I got...
My diesel is an 04. 220k and 37” BFG ATs. Boxes came on the bed with the truck. I’ll see if there is a name on them. I wish they were a little taller. I get around 14mpg with the camper on. My gas truck averages 11-12 empty.
I have a slide in on a flat bed. I would live a side entry over the rear entry option. My ideal custom camper would be a rear dinette layout but with a full length bed box notched into the drivers side of the camper. A mix of both I guess. One day I’ll get around to building it.
my big concern...
I’ve bought two different slide in campers in Pa. one was a Phoenix I traveled to the other side of the state for. I paid 3k for that and it leaked like crazy. Ended up getting crazy mold in it and scrapped it. Second is a four wheel camper grandby. It’s a shell model I all but stole for $800...
I had a Phoenix pop top. It was a 2004 model. Terrible build quality and leaked like you would believe. I now have a four wheel camper built the same year. I would never go the Phoenix route again.
I think a LED light bar would look good on top of the bumper just below the lower cross bar on the brush guard. it would tie right in with the LED blinkers
