My Kitchen Box concept - Comments please.

Very nice. I'm inspired to build one now. Great project for the winter. Frank

What kind of camp cook are you?

I tend to eat granola/oatmeal/fruit and coffee in the morning, sandwiches for lunch, and a big "one pot" meal like pork vindaloo in the evening. Depending on the day, I might miss lunch once in a while if I'm busy hiking or exploring. But I try HARD to get bfast and dinner at a minimum. I...

    Back from SE Utah

Got back from SE Utah late last night. Saw Monument Valley, LOTS of wall art and ruins, including the Wolfman panel, Big Bob, The Hobbs wash ruin, Snake in mouth, the Doll house, and more. Seventeen hundred miles, lots of camping, lots of great times. Lots of sunburn, too. Pics later. Frank

Water Pump / Water Tank setup...

If you buy a Shurflo or Flojet, get one with a pressure switch. It allows you to use it later as a sink pump. I've had one for ten years and transferred it to four campers. If you get one without a pressure switch, it will still work as a sink pump, but it's more cumbersome. Frank.

    Cloudveil closes Jackson office

The statement I was responding to indicated that Jackson Hole was hardcore. I disagree. But I don't disagree that there are a few in the hole that are hardcore. Mostly, though it's a tourist town, full of the very wealthy and the balance of people trying to eke out a living. No offense meant to...

    Kitchen Kit/Chuck Box

Not entirely. It's assembled out of USA and imported parts. Still, they're beautiful boxes, and worth the money. I wish they sold a larger one, that's all.

    Propane Chest Fridge?

Just finished reading the thread. Thanks for the info; I'm going to do some more searching. This might work. Gasman, thanks for being willing to check it out for me. Frank

    Propane Chest Fridge?

No, it's a Dometic RC4000. Looks like the A40 only cools to 20 degree below ambient, though. That wouldn't work. The Dometic is too small. Frank

    Propane Chest Fridge?

Yup, I searched. Seems like I remember a propane fired chest fridge a few years ago. I've found one, but it's pretty small; I'd like one in the 50-60 quart range. Ring a bell to anyone? I haven't ruled out a 12V unit with the Danfoss compressor, but with the furnace, my CPAP machine and lights...

    Kitchen Kit/Chuck Box

X2. Really nice, but I doubt it'd suffice for me. I'd need more room. Wonder where it's made- China?

    Portable fire pan

I've been using the bottom half of a twenty gallon solvent barrel for years. I got it red hot several times to ensure that all the solvent (alcohol, in this case) was out of the bottom creases, and threw it in the rig. I use an inexpensive Coughan's grate over the top.

    An all around handgun

I carry a S&W 629 with a 5" barrel. I can shoot 44 specials out of it, or just about any other 44 mag ammo. It isn't little, but it's effective. I prefer a revolver for a carry gun, but I'm partial to good quality 1911's. I'd have a hard time having just one.

'42 Dodge?? bus on military axles - eBay

Buy it, strip the engine and axles, and take the rest to the boneyard where it belongs. What a pile. A cool pile, but a pile nonetheless.

Old school Coleman Products.. Worth IT?

Coleman made (might still) dual fuel stoves and lanterns that were designed to work well on pump gas. But white gas is more highly refined, and lacks some of the additives pump gas has. But if I was in a bind, I wouldn't hesitate to use pump gas.

    Question: Cooking with cast iron

Not to hijack your thread, but LeCreuset makes cast iron enameled pans that work great, don't need seasoned, and can be used to cook acidic food. I just bought a 2 quart saucepan with lid for nine bucks at Salvation Army. Lodge is the brand, unless you can find vintage cast iron in second hand...
