    Camping with a weapon

Well, of course, someone had to do it. Very sensational stuff, and every situation hits the evening news as one would expect...but why? Because it rarely happens. Kinda' like when someone gets hit by lightning, except the odds are even less with wildlife attacks. Just because "it rarely...

Do you feel the need to have a weapon when camping

X2 I prefer a revolver because of its simplicy and dependability. Dunk it in mud, sand, or water and it'll still likely work. But I still love my 45 ACP. Thank goodness they're not women or I'd be in trouble.:sombrero:

Modern winter jackets WOW things have changed

Filson Double Cape Mackinaw. Warm, durable, no zippers to break, and it doesn't burn as fast as plasticware;).

A cheap, pretty quiet 12V fan

X2. I've got the smaller version that I bought at the world's most evil retailer, takes 4 D batteries, for $5.00 on clearance a couple winters ago. Works great.

Do you feel the need to have a weapon when camping

I keep a 5" Smith & Wesson 629 stainless 44 mag on my hip at all times, BUT I'M PROFICIENT WITH IT. If you're going to have a weapon, please spend enough time practicing to be proficient. It's far better to have a smaller sidearm (yes, even a .380) you can shoot accurately than a big hog leg you...

    Jerry can ID question

They're Blitz style cans, very similar to USGI jerry cans. Most hardware stores have carriers for them. They usually leak, and need to be stored in the upright position. I've seen these locally for $70 each new. Sounds like you did okay if they're in good shape.

    Fire Pans, NO MORE RINGS!

I use my weber charcoal bbq grill. It's an 18" portable model. I use it to cook (meat, mostly) and then for a firepan. No holes on the bottom, just on the sides. It worked great on my SE Utah trip.We used it all night, and poured the ashes into the firepit that was at each CG.

Air Pressurized NATO Jerry Can pump.

I doubt I'd use it. My arm might get tired, you know. :sombrero: The air powered version is great.

    braided steel fuel line?

I just had a airline made from teflon at my local hose store. It was braided and good to 300+ degrees. Check out your local hydraulic hose repair store. I'll bet they can hook you up.

Air Pressurized NATO Jerry Can pump.

I don't keep cans on a roof rack, and having had two back surgeries, I'm not interested in a third. Looks like a great addition to my tool box. But I guess if you're a young buck, it might seem like a waste..... :)

Do you feel the need to have a weapon when camping

Please take the 590 to the range and put a couple boxes of a,mmo through it BEFORE you need it make sure you're proficient with it. Understand how to clean and field strip it, too. Having a weapon is great but as dangerous as giving a teen a car without training. Have fun on your trip.

Question regarding carrying 1lb Propane tanks

X2. I've refilled them for years with no problems. Besides, they have a relief valve to bleed off pressure if it's too high (like in a fire). There's a very remote chance of risk.

mods you wouldnt do again ...

Installing Rancho shocks instead of Bilsteins the first time. Buying "lifetime warrantee" brake pads and shoes, only to watch them eat up new rotors and drums. Installing a fusebox I bought at an RV dealer rather than a serious fusebox (like the Bluesky unit I have now). Cutting holes in my...

    Best Thermos ?????????

Start going to garage sales and look inside theroses for sale. You're looking for a glass liner. I have two, and they both keep coffee hot twelve hours or more. They'll break when dropped or misused, but so will a GPS or binoculars. The best part is the cost. I usually buy them for two bucks or...

    The world's first...

Maybe I missed something, but this seems a bit vitreolic a reponse to Weasel's post. To each their own; no need to be sensitive about someone else's preference or posts. As for me, I'm a coffe equipment whore. I keep a percolator, a Bialetti espresso maker, and a Melitta coffe cone and filters...

    Cooking mistakes

I watched a kid try to cook a whole pound of bacon over a campfire. Exciting to watch. If I can find and scan the pic, I'll post it up.
