Ya know, I have to say.... I need a different lense. Looking at these pictures, it makes the bumper look like it sticks out a mile!! In reality it only sticks out past the tires by less than 1/2" Crazy wide angle effect I guess...

Welding and more Fab on Front bumper Due to the fact that I do not have a "fixture" for the bumper, I had a decision to make. You see, a fixture would help to keep it squared up and straight during the welding process. Those of you that have welded before probably know that welding and...

I hadn't considered doing bumpers for other people. Let me give that some thought. This is really the first fab project I have done for ourselves in a very very long time, unless you count my 1/10 scale projects :) Thank you!

    My new ZJ Expedition Rig

I am really looking forward to your report on the underbody protection. That is one area I haven't began to think about with my ZJ. I am especially interested in the crossmember. Have fun on your trip!

Time for a Winch! Truth be told, I am a little worried about the Smittybilt Winch I got for this rig. I bought it because I found a rediculous deal on it, and the TJM one I wanted wasn't available yet. I am glad to see that most of the winches share the same footprint, so worst case, I can...

Front Bumper Cont. I tack welded this plate in, then had to midify it, so I pulled it back off and sent it in to the apex for trimming I decided to do the other side in the exact manner, so I scribed the line where the material was to be removed than got after it again There we go, much...

Time to get crackin! Front Bumper Well, the day was upon me, when I finally had all the components to lay down some tack welds and see the bumpers come to life. I just had to wait until I was off work to get after it! Ok, first things first, I had to put the main plate across the front face of...

progress progress progress The next step in my process put me on the road. I was out visiting some of our marketing partners for work, and decided to ask for some advice. I popped into Poison Spyder and enquired about their spare tire carrier system. We just did one at work on the bosses truck...

You should start a thread. I would be very interested in checking out the aluminum versions you are working on. I considered aluminum, but I am not the best aluminum welder :) that and it takes forever to weld them with my TIG, but the mig is a lot faster, especially with my limited time frame...

Right on! I am stoked someone else is doing it this way. It is a lot of work to make them clean and nice going the route of all individual pieces. I would have loved to do press broken parts, way easier!! Do you have a thread? Thanks man :)

Bumper design completed I finally had all the patterns for the bumpers done. There would be some finishing pieces I would need to add, but I could just whip those up out of strap material when the time comes. The last thing I needed a pattern for were the rock sliders. I decided to do them...

Rear bumper design cont. choosing the angle would force me to commit, and there was no turning back. I decide to change the angle on the lateral plane first , this would kick the rear of the bubper in, and make it not so squared off. I simply followed the line from the top plate all the way to...

    98 Jeep ZJ "SHTFV"

Rear bumper design cont. I had already made the basic decision on the rear most part of the blade. That is determined by the shape of the rear bumper brackets. So to start I just had to measure and shear the appropriate size pieces for the brackets, and tape them in place. First the top...

Rear bumper design Well guys and gals..... the last few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of activity. I made the crazy decision to try and get the rig done enough (in my opinion) to roll to the Overland Expo. A friend of mine who used to work on our Rally car team became a rep. for Engel...

what's the asking price? I am looking for a low milage motor, JIC of course :)

    4.0l vs 5.2l

I have actually owned both, still own a V8 version. The major difference is the power pulling hills. Both of my ZJs were lifted, my 98 5.2L on 32's gets 14mpg HWY, my 93 4.0L on 31's got 14mpg as well. I have experienced overheating in my V8, but that was climbing steep grades while towing, so...
