    98 Jeep ZJ "SHTFV"

Unfortunetly I was not around when the transmission rebuild went down (I was out of town on business), so I dont have any real tech photos to show you of this portion of the build. I will tell you that it was built by Tony from RDE, and his brother Walter from Walter's Transmissions. They are...

I guess I have a few things to keep an eye on with this vehicle. I am well aware of the Uni-Body factor here and know that it will not be happy with excessive use and abuse. I am hoping to only experience moderate articulation regularly, especially because of the extra weight that is about to be...

Oh ya, this kit is a tremendous improvement over the earlier version I had! The shocks are valved so perfectly! I love Icon. So the next mission is a drawer system, front, rear bumpers, sliders-ish, roof rack and a host of ther goodies funds permitting! Thanks for checking out my thread!

oooooooo, thats no bueno!! Ok, that's it. I am going to have to do something about that. I think I need to do something about these axles anyways, This aluminum center section 44 and weak sauce front end aren't going to cut it anyhow once this is weighted down. Time to put the thinking cap on...

Rubicon Express installed! Since the Jeep was already in the shop, I started to think about the other little issues that are on my list to sort out. My battery and the mount can only be considered epic fail. Truth be told, it did death valley like this.... :yikes: I headed to the local auto...

Suspension Comparison So with all the stock parts on the floor, I couldn't help but take pictures of all the standard components versus the new Rubicon parts. Take a look at what gets replaced with this kit... Here are the front springs, which appear to be a bit more heavy duty than stock. I...

Suspension Continued The first thing I did after dropping the truck off at Ranch Muffler was inspect the entire suspension kit. I took the springs, threw them in the old work truck and headed to Icon Vehicle Dynamics to let Dylan measure them and make a decision on the valving for the shocks...

Thank you! That was back in the day when owning and using a "station Wagon" was taboo. I really miss that rig, never should have sold it!!

    My new ZJ Expedition Rig

That fold up table you have is really cool! So, question... What light are you running on your tailgate, and how is it powered? I like the idea of more light when the gate is open, and back there workin!

Time for suspension We spent lots of time going back and forth about the different suspension options that are available for the Jeep ZJ. I kept going back to the old suspension system I had on my last ZJ, the Rubicon Express 4.5" short arm system. This suspension was for lack of better words...

Ok, that laser isn't pointed at an airplane. For the record, not all people are morons and give into the desire to point them at airplanes.... lol. My wife is majoring in astronomy, so I am constantly asking her about the stars and if I am lucky, I learn a thing or two. Of course, it is a jeep...

New Tires The wife and I decided we were going to take a trip through the new years holiday this last year, and came to the conclusion that we needed to run some different tires on the Jeep. The stock tires had been more than good to us, getting us safely through Death Valley and several more...

Thank you for the compliment, I think it took as long to build as my ZJ will :) I always keep a scaler in the rig with us, you never know what sort of terrain you will come across! I think it may be overkill, but if I get a new one, I can always loan that to a buddy for a quick mount up and usage!

I also found some KC lights from some of our old Baja excursions. I was lazy with the camera when I was messing with the light mount set-up. To make a long story short, I was running out of time right before we left, and decided to take a short cut and tig weld up a mount, and then weld it on...

I brought the aluminum sheet to the shear and started slicing some strips to make this happen. Then I had to drill a few holes Then came the tricky part. I had to break it at the perfect angle so the holes would line up correctly After a little negotiating, it seemed to fit just fine...

some prelim mods We decided to head to Death Valley soon after we purchased our new (to us) Jeep ZJ. About 2 days prior to our departure, I decided to dig through the archives in my garage and see what kind of stuff I could throw on the Jeep to assist us in our journey. I discovered a GPS...

Even if it is RC, it is still an adventure, and that is what the Jeep brand means to me :) Truth is, I would love to build an XJ like that in full scale, too much $$ though haha... I guess I was playing a bit there. I hope you guys liked the build at least!

stalling, at best Ok, so I came home this weekend with the best of intentions to get some work done on the ZJ. I was all set to get cracking on the next step of my build when I saw it out of the corner of my eye, My XJ. I could almost hear it pleading for my attention, arguing about how...

Hello Portal! I have been on this website for a little while now, primarily just digging through pages and pages of information/inspiration. Truth be told, I was told that I need to be on this "overland" action by a very good friend a few years ago. He was right. I am creeping up on the big...
