    Range Rover vs LR4

Is there any other way to lift a modern RR? All you can do is limit-extender rods, unless you go to a coil swapout. And every coil swapout I've seen is for the stock ride height, which by all accounts is less than a rod-extension/software combo lift.

    Front Driveshaft 2003 Disco 2

Don't forget to get a serviceable centering ball too. Many have had serviceable U-joints only to have the grease in the centering ball fail and blow up the shaft. You can rebuild it, but everything must be serviceable. Likewise, you can read posts about people who would service their U-joints...

A Rig Named Scout and its Adventures

Excellent eye for photography! Great composition and post processing. As a fellow Nikon shooter myself, I'd say skip the trifecta zooms: They'd be nice, but you don't need 'em. Spend the Money on the FX body instead. I love my D800, and my bet is you'd get MUCH more out of the low-light ISO...

    First Land Rover!

Awesome! Looks good! Now get that serviceable front shaft, an ultraguage, and a 180 T-stat on order and she should serve you for many miles to come!

    Shopping for a Disco

Chazz, At the expense of hijacking the thread (and I do NOT want to turn this into yet another Rover V8 oil debate, I would like you to expound on what went wrong with your 15w40 experience. Was it because you were running it year round? You are spot on that 5W40 and 0W40 are the "best"...

    Shopping for a Disco

To the OP, be sure to download the RAVE, which is essentially an electronic copy of Land Rover's shop manual. Lots of good, good stuff in there. It's free from a multitude of sites. A good search will bring up a few sources. It is there that you can read up on Land Rover's oil specs and when...

    Shopping for a Disco

I forgot to add..... If I wanted to replace the water-proof D1 gaitor, it would cost me $200 for the part, thus negating all my savings. The Cable design is not connected to the T-case (so you don't get the noise and vibration transmitted) and is bolted from underneath the floorpan plate...

    Shopping for a Disco

A couple of reasons. 1) Will you get all the parts in your D1 salvage kit? I got all mine, but the rubber gaitor (water-proofing) was torn, so I have no water proofing at all. It allows a lot of noise in. Then you have to modify the shaft to fit. There are various ways to do this depending...

    Shopping for a Disco

Here are some thoughts: 1) Newish isn't "bestish". As the old Rover V8 line came to an end, worn manufacturing parts really screwed up tolerances. Later model 4.6s (especially) and 4.0s are notorious for slipped liners causing expensive $5k Top-Hat engine replacements. Allegedly, it got so...

    Why LR4 over L322

I had forgotten about the G4. A G4 setup with a more aggressive front bumper would probably be all the L322 needs. Although aren't the airlines below those huge skids/sliders? I've heard it makes trail repairs a pain in the rear.

    Why LR4 over L322

Yup. Give it time. I'll be in the L322 scene in a few years, prices are still a bit steep for me for Jag-engined RRs. I'm already doing my research and preparing what mods need to happen. The only thing that will probably stop me is utter personal financial collapse or if Fiat makes the Jeep...

Why are there not more MK III expo rigs on here?

Dsliver, can you tell me what kind of tires you run on that L322? My Disco could use some, that traction you have is simply gravity-defying!

Why are there not more MK III expo rigs on here?

I've owned the BMW M62 in my 540i. It's a high performance motor, not designed at ALL for expedition work. It had a liquid cooled alternator (I believe the Rover V8 raised it, if not it's at the bottom of the motor), plastic chain guides which can jump a tooth at 100k, HORRIBLE cooling system...

    Tire Size Help.

For what it's worth, I love my Cooper's enough to put them on my Disco and my suburban, and they'll go on my 2500HD as soon as the stock tires wear out. My cousin has Duratrac's and loves them too. They are more aggressive looking, but the price difference made me go with Coopers. From...

Hey Mods/Admins, what happened to Mr. Graham's '93 RRC build on the front page

article and his musings about crossing the Kalahari when he was 10 in a RRC. As a father of 3 from ages 6 to 2 planning a White Rim campout in the next year or so, I found that story a fun read. I wanted to share it with my wife....but it's gone. Is that typical of ExPo articles?

    Range Rover vs LR4

Odd. The 2011 I was in was sucked to the road with minimal body roll on cornering at highway speeds. It was on par with the RRS (obviously the orignal MSRP was much higher). The LR4 had the "floatiest" feel on the highway out of the three I've driven. I wonder what was different between the...

    Range Rover vs LR4

I've mentioned this on similar threads: We have a Disco II, but my wife was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in her back at a young age, so the solid axles on washboard roads really take the fun out of off-roading. So I went against my religion and decided to try out the IFS/IRS combo...

    Compomotive Wheels?

He is correct (I'm not sure about the price). You can contact Compautomotive directly. I can't remember if that cost includes shipping or not. It's expensive as heck, but I thought it was around $2500 for a set not $2800, then again, I was pricing them 1 year ago when I almost pulled the...
