Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

awesome! I notice the vehicle isn't as eager to toss it's weight around like a 4x4 but I haven't put it in a situation where that is an issue. I am getting 23MPG steady for highway driving this winter, but get about 27MPG city in warmer weather. I was getting about 1MPG better before the tire...

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

Got to try it out for the first time in snow and it did well. It feels like a front wheel drive car in general. I didn't get into anything deep enough to induce much wheel spin unfortunately, hopefully we get some more snow before spring! I also got to take it on an unpaved road in the state...

2010 Suzuki SX4 Crossover AWD, CVT

Only suggestion would be figure out a way to secure the rear floor over your tools, otherwise all of those things could fly around in the event of an accident/rollover. I know that would be the exception, but it is always better to be prepared for any situation.

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

I love the lx470s, so much you can do with those. You mention that you are considering the rav4 hybrid and rx450h but I would recommend checking out the highlander hybrid as well. To answer a few of your questions, the 3.3l engine was used in the rx330, rx400h, es330, Toyota sienna, and Toyota...

1999 Toyota Land Cruiser For Sale - Fully Overland Prepped & Outfitted - Excellent Condition

Bump for an awesome looking rig! You actually drove by me a couple weeks ago on 93-N after the rt24/rt3 split. Couldn't take my eyes off of it!

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

Today was a day to catch up on some maintenance. She was due for an oil change and I decided to go with the best: OK, technically they also make an annual performance 20k mile oil, but this should do fine since I will likely change it at 7500 miles first time around. I managed to break one...

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

Hey all, been a bit since I've checked in. Not much of an update but I *did* finally get the wheels on! About a month back, some time in early december as the temps started to drop, the car almost left me stranded. It had done this behavior once or twice before, in that I would drive somewhere...

    Ford Escape e/x Build

There are some great LED kits out there now. This website seems unbiased for the most part, and offers reviews on several different brands for you to consider. Also lists halogen bulbs. https://www.bulbfacts.com/led-kits/recommended/

The Excuse: A 4400 Mile, 12 State Adventure

just tried and flickr works: you can see at the bottom it shows basic settings and an option to view all exif data. Just a note, flickr free accounts are going to be limited to 1000 photos soon, which is a bummer. But at least they didn't ruin 90% of the how-tos on the internet like...

The Excuse: A 4400 Mile, 12 State Adventure

Any chance you could upload the photos to a site that keeps exif data/picture properties? There's some stunning photos and as a hobby photographer myself I'd love to see what zoom, aperture, shutter speed etc were used.

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

thanks guys! I may end up spraying them gunmetal. I will see how the first wheel finishes up and make my decision after that. Kind of odd to spend so much time on something cosmetic, at least on this forum, but here is an untouched wheel and then the first wheel sanded up to 320 grit. I need to...

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

If you recall (and you should, we're still on the first page), the aftermarket wheels I got were in pretty rough shape. I decided to sand down all the clearcoat failure down to the aluminum and then shine it up. My regret was almost instant, as the amount of time it has taken me to get this...

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

One thing I really like about the vehicle is the storage. It isn't a particular big vehicle, but it has a large center console, door pockets on both front doors (big enough for me to keep my netbook with charger at all times), and in the hatch area, there is in floor storage. I have...

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

I'm thinking of just getting a memory foam mattress topper like some others have done, maybe one of the 3 or 4 inch ones, and laying it over the folded rear seats. I also have a 12v TEC cooler (chills and heats). The only reason I would want to go with a lift is to get over 8" of ground...

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

So back to making it overland-y. The RX400h uses a unique all wheel drive system. It has no transfer case and no rear drive shaft. Rather, it has a CVT transmission mated to the 3.3L engine and coupled to a 123kW (165HP) electric motor up front, and a completely independent rear electric motor...

Overland/cross country vehicle: Lexus RX400h Hybrid

I've always had an interest in the overland scene, and have been a lurker on the forum for many years now. I bought a 2000 Jeep Cherokee about 6 years ago and I still have it, and it has taught me quite a bit about wrenching on your rig. That being said, it has come to the point where I would...

    Previa AWD Camper Conversion

great build! Can you explain how you made the rear window shades and how they stay in place? Also, I see the Wagan 400w inverter. How do you like it? I had a lower powered one that chirped under load and was thinking of getting a beefier one.

Another RTT mattress question - 5" memory foam?

having used one as an actual bed in a bedroom, they do get very firm in the cold, probably not foldable at 50*. That being said, I never slept better than on my tempurpedic memory foam mattress. As stated, once body heat transfers to the mattress it will take your shape and soften up.
