Introducing the “NEW” Alu-Cab Canopy Camper

I received an email from Alu-Cab that they were suspending operations until April 16th, I imagine that will impact your order. You can read the details here - https://www.alu-cab.com/blog/news/official-covid-19-update-notice/

    Propane conundrum

I use the FlameKing when heading out for short trips - 2 to 3 days - and it works really well, easy to fill from 20 lb tanks. No issues so far and have refilled many times. Longer trips, I take my 5lb tank.

    Propane conundrum

I did see that, but at least it is not that annoying elbow joint, much easier to deal with when using a 5lb tank, which is what I use.

    Propane conundrum

The only one I know of is the Camp Chef Mountaineer, but that sells for more than $150. I'd also like to see more stoves that aren't designed for those 1lb canisters that require the regulator arm.

Introducing the “NEW” Alu-Cab Canopy Camper

I think I said "Not tall", at least I tower over my corgi. The issue for my wife, is she likes the easy access to the Thetford toilet we have inside the Habitat - this way she doesn't have to brave the cold in the winter or the bugs in the summer. Not sure if that will work in the Alu-Cab.

Introducing the “NEW” Alu-Cab Canopy Camper

Considering switching to Alu-Cab, currently own and love my Habitat, but moving back to the east coast, makes heating the Habitat a pain for winter camping. One concern is with the bed platform down, how much room is there to get out of bed - not disturb my wife or more likely have her disturb...

Wanted: AT Habitat for Tacoma 6" or Similar

I'm planning on putting my 6' Habitat up for sale soon - here are the details, I'll post pics this week. Selling my 2.5 year old Habitat - I've moved back east and need something that I can easily heat. If I were still living on the west coast I would not be selling this, it is a great camper...

    E-bikes?

No - the criteria is not subjective at all. Who said anything about too loud or too fast? Class 1 e-bikes are limited to 20 mph assist, downhill doesn't matter, assist stops at 20 mph - there is your binary option - "assist to 20 mph" vs. greater than 20 mph. Easy to set standards for decibel...

    E-bikes?

I think you answered your own question in the fourth paragraph. If you drew a Venn diagram with bicycle, e-bike, moped, and motorcycle the greatest overlap would be with the bicycle and e-bike and critical attributes that differentiate mopeds and motorcycles from bicycles would be speed, noise...

Better to Buy or Rent a 4WD rig/camper van

My wife and I are planning a NZ trip next year - let me know what/where you end up renting. I think buying and selling for a two month timeframe would be a hassle compared to renting.

Introducing the “NEW” Alu-Cab Canopy Camper

I looked at a Canopy Alu-cab last Friday - to replace my AT habitat which is more 3-season, and I need something that is 4-season and easy to heat. Quality build and a bit heavier than my Habitat, which did require suspension upgrades - my tacoma was riding low with it. I went for add-a-leaf and...

    Alu-Cab Khaya Camper

Ronin, Thanks for the quick response and feedback on the Khaya - those are some serious concerns especially considering the price. Maybe the Canopy should be higher on my list, and also checking out the AT Atlas and AT Summit - maybe they will give me a good trade-in on the Habitat.

    Alu-Cab Khaya Camper

I'm looking at a Khaya this weekend and also checking out the Canopy model. The weight really concerns me, I currently have an AT Habitat, which is great, but I recently relocated from west coast to east, and the Habitat is not good for four seasons out here - I need something smaller that I can...

    AT Tacoma Habitat: Official Thread

We tried the 3" topper for a bit, but it was too bulky and rolling it up every time was a pain. It was much more comfortable. We ended up taking the mattress out and putting an Exped Duo, which has the added benefit of making it easier to close the top.

FWC; major design changes, issues, and value?

Whenever I see “the only reason” I know what follows is likely to be wrong. I ran an R&D Innovation group for a large technology company in Palo Alto and a significant portion of product development/improvement budget is allocated to maintaining parity with competition. Company X introduces a...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

@MattJ - I finally assembled my propex kit yesterday - not the easiest, instructions are minimal, some wrong parts, hinge not drilled, different thermostat, etc. But all is working well, at least the initial firing, haven't had it in my Habitat yet. Given all the modifications you have done, I...

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

I've read the entire thread a few times and ordering the 12.5 ft hose from Amazon this week. I'll probably assembly next weekend if nothing comes up. Any tips on assembling the kit - or just come out to the west coast, 77F degrees and sunny today.

Official Test Results: Five Ways to Heat a Tent

I recently ordered the Propex kit from AT - haven't assembled it yet, but I'm impressed with all that MattJ has done with it. I have the AT habitat on my Tacoma and once I have the kit assembled, need to figure out best placement for it @MattJ - do you think it would work sitting above the cab...
