I am thinking you could put some large holes in the sides of the ammo can. Perhaps 5 or 6 baseball sized holes going around the perimeter of the can itself. I suspect it would let the lava rock fall out if it were to tip over during transport, but otherwise I think the can would hold its shape...

My wife was in the tent and found this "pin". Any idea where it goes? I am not even 100 percent sure it goes with the tent. Pin is about the diameter of a pencil and about 1.5" long. Pin is black plastic/nylon. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Might be a typo in your post. It says you travel with 5 dogs. Nobody is that much of a glutton for punishment. The dog noise while traveling would drive me nuts :P.
