Anyone ever heard of a MY 2002 + G500 transfer case going bad?

A complete transfer case failure is somewhat rare from what I've heard, but the ones that have occurred happened in the 170k+ miles range. Most of the time a new transfer case module and motor seems to do the trick for the TC neutral issue. How do they know for sure it's the TC itself if they...

To keep or not to keep, that is the question (2003 G500)

Based on some guys around here and on P3, 250k+ isn't an anomaly for the V8. I think the biggest concerns with higher mileage most likely manifest themselves in either a front end rebuild or the transmission takes a crap (this is probably on the rarer side).

    WTB G-Wagon 2005+

On the Diffs, I've never tried to engage them in park, but most of the time I am in a slow roll. The center diff locks the fastest for me followed by the front. The rear seems to take the longest, but it also needs some slippage in my case to fully engage. Some people even make a slight turn on...

    2003 G500 with 45,000 miles on it

Given the mileage, you probably won't have the bigger issues of unserviced trannys/diffs/lockers that are common in higher mileage trucks. Besides the regulators, which at that mileage you're probably going to have to replace soon (all four and about a grand a piece parts+labor), I think the...

    FS 2004 Mercedes G500 G-Wagen - 51K miles!

The price is right for the mileage and rust free condition of this truck. Everything on KBB value has 100k+ miles, rust and 4+ previous owners. Right now the G market is a strange one as there are no in-betweens with either beaters or gems like this resulting in the price deltas. GLWS, but if...

    1999 G500 Pur edition

Love it. Is it possible to change the 463 headlight housing and front grill to a 461? or is there too much involved as it seems like you might need to retrofit new fenders as well?

The tail of two Discos - which one to get as my first off-roader/overlanding vehicle?

The D1 Sounds good and well taken care of examples are certainly getting harder and harder to find. That said, depending on how long you expect to keep this truck and your intended use rust is likely to be your biggest concern (not such a big deal if this will be a trail truck that you beat to...

    2000 110 in the states - unobtanium?

From my Audi experiences I know of people who were buying RS4 Avants (not sold here in the US) in Mexico, bringing them up to spec via swapping cats and items like that for emissions and then proving that the car was substantially similar to the A4, allowing for registration domestically. Isn't...

    Overland Journal: G-Wagen

why the 90 degree cant on the AR? dual optics or more lower profile/muzzle awareness so the engine block doesn't get shot out accidentally? I would have an anxiety attack running carbine drills inside and around my G. But then again, I'm just a rec shooter.

Front Runner Slimline II Roof Rack - Choice & Installation / 80-Series Land Cruiser

Reviving an older thread- Nice write up. I recently ordered a slimline rack for my G500. Do you notice any rattling when driving, etc? Also- curious if any one has used the under rack rails to store the FR aluminum table. I love the design but am concerned it could get bounced around and...

New to us daily for the wife. Suggestions?

The key will be service records. High mileage LR3s generally need fixes to air suspension (compressor), control arms (assembly or bushings), rear tailgate, etc. Also- important that diffs fluid change is in its history. Lastly- water leaks. If any of these issues haven't been addressed then they...

    Is it really that bad?

DWeb has a wealth of information, but has been less active recently and is infamous for its members being a real cast of characters. I've also found landroverforums.com to be a good source of information (lots of technical sticky threads) on particularly quirky issues with my disco. The silver...
