Dual battery setup with ArkPak and Ctek charger.

I'm in the process of setting up a similar ArkPak 730 based dual battery system. VanDominator1: I understand everything in your setup except the need for the CTEK 250S charger. Was charging through the Anderson plug inadequate? My plan is to run the live line directly from a Wirthco 150A...

    CFX-35W

deadly 99: I note you are coming out west soon. You going the extra mile and attending the BC Overland Rally in July? I'd like to see your truck 'in person"; I've followed your mods on other forums. The answer will depend on how big the house battery is. I recently bought a 105Ah deep cycle...

People think pulleys increase pulling power.

JPaul: humble apologies, I wrote too fast; I meant simply to stress the impact of having a long line and fewer wraps. A double pull connecting to the vehicle does provide mechanical advantage from the pulley as well indicated in picture 2.

    steel cable woes

One thing that is often overlooked is how to properly pull a wire/rope out of the winch; it's supposed to be done in a constant tug, slowing down as you reach your winching base. If pulled too quickly, the winch drum can overspool, loosening the wraps. This is worse with cable but can happen...

People think pulleys increase pulling power.

This has been entertaining; lots of good points but I think Robert is the only one that answered the OP's starting question (thread page 5). If simply pulling yourself out of a ditch/up a hill whatever using a tree/truck as a base it's always best to run the cable out as far as you can, leaving...

The Official Dometic CFX Fridge Feed!

1leglance: https://www.dometic.com/en-ca/ca/products/food-and-beverage/coolers/accessories/dometic-cfx-sld75-_-152184 Very, very expensive. I'm ordering 50" sliders today to make my own CFX-75DZ/ArkPak slider. A question for Dometic: My neighbour has the CFX-50; it's display screen/controls...

Dometic CF series V. CFX series - what's the diff

These fridges are the same as a household fridge; they don't run all the time but cycle on and off. They need ventilation and have to work harder if the ambient temperature is higher so an insulator is a good idea if your garage is warm.

    Arb 37 quart wiring suggestions

khupp: research "dual battery systems", "battery isolators" and of course, "Anderson plugs" on the Internet. There are loads of good resources and lots of pictures to make it simple. In a nutshell, dual battery systems are composed of the starter or main battery (your vehicle main battery...

    Arb 37 quart wiring suggestions

My massive Dometic 75litre fridge ran for 36 hours in fridge/freezer mode at an ambient temperature of 70C fed by a group 31 105Ah AGM marine battery; size matters. Chris makes really good points; let the fridge breathe but also put an insulating cover on it to make life easier for the thing...

The Official Dometic CFX Fridge Feed!

Update! I got 90hrs out of my 105Ah battery from 100% to 23% charge running the big fridge/fridge combo at 3C in an ambient 70C. 6 hours shy of 4 days; the fridge shut itself off at the medium battery saver setting and this works for me at 23% charge as I really did not want to go lower. The...

Okie Preacher: just watch out with your roof loading; I bring up this point many times because it is an important safety consideration and there are many on this forum that have a "yeah, whatever" attitude to roof loading. Lots of folk will state that their truck is just fine with lots of load...

The Official Dometic CFX Fridge Feed!

Thanks 1Goodbeer: it looks like at 21C ambient, both sides full of beer and other drinks, both at 3C, I will get exactly 4 days from my ArkPak to a 22% charge level on my battery based on current numbers; I don't want to go below 20% charge. The freezer really sucks up a lot of power; with the...

    Wilco Hitchgate Solo Review

My OEM camera is about 8" below the top of the tailgate. With the offset carrier this I see enough to park without any issues. I had to learn where the lines on the ground are with respect to the back side of my rear wheel.

    Lets talk security

Not just trucks; goodies too. A pal came back to his truck, in the bush, to find his 50' lightbar gone. We need more options for fastening stuff to our trucks to make it harder to steal stuff.

The Official Dometic CFX Fridge Feed!

I realize that with the Overland Expo happening, it's not a good time to ask questions but I have a few comments for later discussion: The Dometic manual states (pg17) that "if the cooler is connected to a "supply" battery the "Low" battery monitor setting will suffice". Low= switch off at...

    Keeping cool, keeping it simple

I cut the blinds just slightly oversize so that I poke the edges all the way around behind the window rim when fitting them; no suction cups required! The Colorado front side windows have a gap at the front bottom on each side which also helps to hold the blinds in place.

    Wilco Hitchgate Solo Review

In response to Josh's comments and concerns about carrying two spares, I would very strongly recommend learning how to change a tire off road. I attended a course by Bob Wohler at the BC Overland meeting last year during which he explained how to repair tires including how to remove and refit...

    Keeping cool, keeping it simple

Hi folks: Just sharing a very cheap and simple addition to my truck; custom window reflector blinds. I bought about 10'x4' (way too much) of double shiny sided bubble wrap from the local hardware shop and about 30 minutes later had custom blinds for my side windows. My truck gets way too hot...

Shoe holder, thingymabob, keeping shoes outside the tent

the easiest solution if your tent doesn't already have a shoe bag is to buy or make a mesh bag big enough for your boots/shoes and hang it from the top rung of your ladder with a small hook. This of course works best if you have an overhang otherwise thing swill get wet when it rains.

The Official Dometic CFX Fridge Feed!

A timely thread; my monster CFX75DZW arrived today. I checked the pictures and specs before buying but to see it is to believe it; it's HUGE. I will have to buy more beer to fill it. I'm planning to feed it from my ArkPak 730. One interesting note in the instructions (page 15) is a danger...
