An interesting concept to improve your roof top tent.

I wonder how the tent is attached to the mounting part? On any RTT, the tent base-to-ally extrusions has to be the weakest part; on my ARB Simpson III the tent base mounts to two aluminum extrusions using 2 bolts and two tiny screws per extrusion. As has already been discussed at length (don't...

    Bed Slide

Tex68W: apologies, I should have noted that I decided to go with a canopy for security, cleanliness and dryness. On the canopy I put a big Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform for my RTT/kayaks/whatever. One more consideration regarding drawers is that if you decide to put a fridge in the back, you...

    Bed Slide

My issue with drawers is that most people are likely to drive around fully loaded with all their gear even when just running the kids to school or picking up groceries. They also tend to promote a "bring everything and the kitchen sink attitude"; loads of stuff that's nice to have but not...

    Bed Rack Vs Topper

Tex68w: My ARE CX HD cap cost CAN$3438 before fitting and taxes. My credit card is still hot to the touch. I looked very closely at Leitner and Wilco Offroad solutions but I decided security and relative cleanliness and dryness were priorities so went with a cap. I was also very concerned...

    Yakima SkyRise RTT

Am I correct to understand that there is only Velcro around the cover edges? No zipper at all? If so, I'd strongly advise owners to be careful how the cover is folded and stored when not in use; I've seen guys simply throw them under the truck and out of the way but if this is done with a...

    Alu-Cab Awning Frontrunner Bracket Install

Herbie's right; those black bolts will start corroding really quickly and at the very least look ugly, at worst damage your aluminum parts. Stainless everywhere, especially when bolting to aluminum platforms, cross bars or brackets. What was wrong with the stainless bolts?

    Alu-Cab Awning Frontrunner Bracket Install

The Canadian term for those brackets is "skookum". They also look really expensive but I'm sure very necessary. Does the awning have drop-down poles too?

    Bed Rack Vs Topper

PatrickB: What do you want to do with your setup; what's its purpose? The cross bars are removable but I'm not sure why you would want to remove them; they are really good, with "T" slots top and bottom. I went the route of a Pioneer Platform to give me more flexibility; it's the full length...

    Bed Rack Vs Topper

It's only money..... I responded earlier but maybe pictures tell the story a little better. I researched this topic to death and finally went with an ARE CX HD canopy. It's got an internal ally frame that connects directly through the canopy roof to two HD cross bars; no weight on the canopy...

    kayak vs. canoe

Way late joining in on this but it's been an interesting read. Lots of very great, valid comments but unless I missed it, no mention of efficiency and safety. From my experience: - if you know how to paddle correctly (often overlooked) a kayak can either go a fixed distance much faster than a...

    2 story Flop Top Glamping

eboersma96: exactly my point! way too many different trucks with different rack set-ups makes it too difficult for the awning and tent manufacturers to come up with a simple solution. It may be a good idea to start a new thread named 'mounting options for attaching an awning to a vehicle -...

New to Me Maggiolina and Awning Suggestions

There are numerous gelcoat repair vids on YouTube. If the thing hasn't been used much it would be my bet that the damage is mostly cosmetic and maybe some UV; it does not look like the thing was covered in a tarp. One super easy fix would be to give it the gelcoat a really good glean and if it...

    2 story Flop Top Glamping

wanderer-rroc: you should post some close-ups of your brackets for others to see; it's one of the most common issues when trying to fit awnings as all our roof rack/whatever systems are different. Looks like your method is robust; lots of small brackets vs a few big ones. My truck has a 74"...

Best Trailer mounted RTT with Annex for cots

Hi JD: I have an ARB Simpson III with an annex. I have it mounted so it opens off the back. With the annex attached, I can just fit two 76" cots, one on each side of the ladder; one has a swing-out tire over it so it's tight. I've never used this scenario but played with my camping stuff to...

    Bed Rack Vs Topper

KLAKEBRONCO: A good question already answered well by many. I researched both for months before deciding on a canopy; my main reasons being keeping stuff clean and for security. I also have a 74" box so I can sleep in it if i choose to so another good reason to go with a canopy. Rack-wise, I...

Anyone have a Ramsey 15k winch? Please help.

I'd advise you to go Google "WARN winch schematics"; I'm sure that the WARN and Ramsey electrics are very similar. There are probably not many people with Ramsey 15k winches so perhaps the title of the query put people off. I like your work.

    Weight Limits Clarification

Mogoat: most basic, clamp-style or gutter bars are good for around 150lb dynamic +/-. If you have a track mounted system roof-rack then the dynamic load goes up; every system is different. Your lightweight Tepui, mounted to basic bars should be fine for a 100lb RTT plus two adults as long as...
