    awnings for winds?

An awning - or portable awnings, like we use in overlanding & camping has to be light for ease of setup, use & transport. The aluminum poles are flimsy, when you figure that their purpose can include supporting a room exposed to the forces of wind. Breezes are one thing, but that's not the...

    Canopy vs Awning

Another + to an attached awning is - it's attached. Already mounted and usually comes with its own cover or bag, so you don't have to pack it or make room for it in your rig. Wall kit's are another matter, though. You'll have to make room for those, if you have 'em.

Alu-Cab Has Landed In The USA!

How's this going? Also, was wondering, where were you when the wind bent the arm? Just curious because I like to keep track of places that might be more susceptible to surprizing strong gusts. Near an ocean beach or inland grassy flats? Any estimate on speed of gust?

Spare Crank —Maggiolina Grand Tour Roof Top Tent - Need help finding a Crank or two.

You must not have noted his location. He's in India - Bangalore. I think he needs to contact Maggiolina's Asia or international office. Also might help to put a tether on the new crank when it arrives...lol

Hard shell RTT options that can carry load on top

What is your tow rig? Have you considered mounting bikes on like, Yakima or Thule bars on it? You're limiting your choice to RTTs that can carry loads & don't want to use the receiver type of bike racks. This might free you up to choose an RTT that is larger or more to your liking and/or budget.

How can a 4 flat wire vehicle tow a 7 blade trailer?

Yes! Excellent idea, but since OP already has the 7-pin installed and working, he just needs the 4-pin and it spliced in to work when needed. He only needs to plug it into a vehicle that has a 7-pin connector - only 1 vehicle at a time can pull the trailer-right? With adding a 4-pin connector...

How can a 4 flat wire vehicle tow a 7 blade trailer?

My question would be: Why fab something up, using multiple connectors, when a $5 connector wired in correctly will do the job? It's simpler and has less splices which are possible failure points. Plus, almost zero chance to get lost. Once again...

How can a 4 flat wire vehicle tow a 7 blade trailer?

Looks to me like all you need is to add this connector (or equivlent), to your existing 7 pin connector on your trailer. You'll need to tap into the wiring, to do this, but it's the simplest way to do it, since an adapter to do what you want, either doesn't exist or is extremely hard to find -...

Standard bedding or sleeping bags in RTT

A lot of RTT owners, including myself, have added a mattress top pad. Can be purchased at like, Walmart or any place that sells mattresses or bed accessories. Memory foam works well. Measure you RTT mattress L x W before you shop & if you can't find your size buy larger & trim it down. Different...

Standard bedding or sleeping bags in RTT

One thing to understand about a RTT in cold weather, is that the bottom of the tent is exposed to the cold air - quite different than a ground tent and similar to sleeping in your vehicle. So insulation that you"re sleeping on is at least as important as your covering - maybe more. Since gravity...

Tepui - NEW Custom fit Sleeping bags

Like to know what you base your claim on. I looked at this site before & again after you posted and still can't find dimensions of their bag other than wt of fill and temp rating. Tepui gives the dimensions of their bag, which is important when you're planning for your RTT. Yeah, I'll agree, the...

    RTTs and lightning

When that kind of weather is in the area, no, not a good idea to skyline camp with anything. When storms sneak up on you, if a lot of lightning, I would get in my rig and keep hands and feet away from anything metal (pedals, shifters, door handles & steering wheel). It's the metal skin of the...

270° awning on truck shell, roof tracks only? no crossbar

Wind Another thing you want to keep in mind with any awning, besides the stuctural considerations mounting to your rig, is that once deployed, it is fair game to any gust of wind. So what, at 1st glance, seems over built, may in actuality be barely adequate. Respectfully consider an awning like...

    Hiker Trailer 5x9 Off-Road Build

Just in case you don't have RV water system experience, when you drain your system, run some RV anti-freeze through your pump. If there's any water trapped in it, it could crack the housing. The anti-freeze will help prevent that. By the way, it's non-toxic.

    Hiker Trailer 5x9 Off-Road Build

If your travel & camping trips are limited to occasional temp dips below freezing at night, I think this might work well. If you camp and/or travel in temps where freezing is your high for the day or where the temp remains below freezing, you'll need not only insulation, but a heating source...

    Hiker Trailer 5x9 Off-Road Build

Looks interesting & fun. Just remember to winterize your plumbing, pump & tank. Which brings up a good point and one I'm at a dilemma with. I'm close to ordering a 4x4 extreme and I'm choosing the 21 gal water tank as an option. Below freezing camping with this is going to be difficult if not...

Found a lose part in my CVT tent. Where does it go?

I disagree. Could be a standard rivet that didn't get set. What CVT tent do you have? Hard shell or canvas?

Alu-Cab Has Landed In The USA!

Looking forward to viewing your solution. I've had some ideas my self, but it's not only the bugs but also the weather (mainly moisture) I want to seal out. Being as the Shadow Awn is mainly designed for Sun protection (shade). The wall kit is, to me, kind of an afterthought and mainly for...
