    New Defender News

I'm using the OEM winch mount - I bought the Warn winch from Four Wheel Parts for around $1900. I'm doing some upgrades to my Defender 90 right now and will install the winch when they are complete. I installed the Lucky 8 rock sliders - a friend has a two post lift and that made that job a...

    New Defender News

Tasman blue with a white roof was my second choice (since Land Rover won't paint one G4 Orange) and I would have gotten the white steel wheels if I had gone that route. I've already installed the rock sliders and have the winch kit and rear tow loops waiting for me to get time to install them...

    New Defender News

Thanks - good to hear. I am planning to step up from the 255/70 to 265/70 when I upgrade from the stock Goodyear "off road" tires. I went with the 18" gray alloys because they are a little lighter and I liked the look. It was a tossup though - the white steelies do look good but wrestling a flat...

Does the 265/70R18 clear without scuffing anywhere? That's just a shade under 33" tall (32.87) - looks like a great choice and a very recent addition to the 18" Cooper tire sizes. I like tall and skinny tires and will be trying to decide between BFG and Cooper tires to replace the Goodyears that...

    Watches.......the other type!

A friend of mine is a moderator on Watchuseek and can go on endlessly about watches. He makes a couple of trips a year to Switzerland to visit the factories and has amassed a very nice collection. He appraised my vintage 1954 Rolex Turn-o-graph for me (my grandfather's watch). It's gotten way...

Discovery 5 - Advice on larger tires for 22" wheels

You would be a lot better off finding a set of 20" wheels for it.I had 20" Cooper tires on my D5 and it rode really well on dirt roads.

Maggiolina extreme handle lost and needed

I did basically the same thing Frenchie did - found a piece of steel tubing a couple of inches long that would slip over the shaft of the raising mechanism, drilled a cross hole of a size that was slightly smaller than the slot in the shaft about 5/8 from the end of the tube and welded in a...

Tired of all the "crap" RTT's. So I made my own. - TERRAPOD!

It's a German Eriba Puck, a 12' long camping trailer that weighs around 1000 lbs and was designed to be towed by Volkswagens. I imported it from the UK early last year.

    An Axe - Seriously?

We were up at Tellico back in 2006 and took a ride up a dead end trail to the top of the mountain - on our way back down we found this blocking our path... I got on the radio and asked if anyone had a chain saw - Denny said I've got one but its in my tent (back in camp about six miles away)...

    This truck is unbelievable good

The rear hatch and the rotary shift knob were the only two things I didn't like about my D5. The TDV6 was outstanding and it was a great road car. I easily drove up a steep rutted hill that defeated an old Series II 109. My thinking is hatches belong on minivans not SUVs. If they had fitted a...

    Bush Alpha, Alu-cab 3.1, Terrapod

The Terrapod composite panels are an inch thick and do have an R value (Chad told me what it was but I've forgotten). Any roof tent is probably going to have a single layer wall so not much insulation there. A good mattress and sleeping bag are the key to staying warm as long as you stay dry. I...

Look at small fiberglass trailers like a Scamp, Boler, Armadillo or a Snoozy. The forum at fiberglass RV.com has a lot of information. I have a German Eriba Puck I imported from the UK last year - it's 12' long and weighs around 1000 lbs.

    New Defender News

I have a small travel trailer and a utility trailer that it tows without seeming to affect it in any way - but that's only around 2500 lbs max that I've towed with it. I'm sure it would handle well over 4000 lbs without any effects. The roof rack is noisy between 60-70 mph, I will eventually...

    Quality Propane Tanks for Overlanding?

Yeah the exchange services used to give you 16 lbs in a 20 lb tank, guess they decided to short change their customers even more. I usually go to one of the local RV service centers to get my tank refilled. The local Ace Hardware and Tractor Supply also do refills. It's not that hard to find a...

    New Defender News

This aerodynamic beast will easily get over 24 mpg at 65 mph on the interstates. I was so looking forward to a D300 Defender 110 but LRNA decided not to bring them in because they didn't think there would be a big enough demand for diesels here.

    New Defender News

I get around 14-16 mpg in city driving and 17-19 mpg on the highway with my P300. Its not great but its not horrible either - better than my old LR3 and I feel the power of the four cylinder is just fine. The differential gearing is lower in the four cylinder than the six cylinder Defenders...

    New Defender News

The new Land Rovers were well represented on our trail ride last weekend in the North Georgia mountains. The Discovery 5 is a TDV6 in Namibia Orange - really neat vehicle. The three 110's are all P300 four cylinder petrol versions.
