Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

If there's one thing that almost all Wrangler owners can agree on, it's that the nets on the door panels suck. The first time you use them they'll probably stretch and before long they'll stretch to the point where they hang below the bottom of the door and prevent the door from closing. Some...

Cool Jeeps You Can't Have - Mahindra of India

There are many interesting expeditions one can do in/around India. Here's a story from the Indian Team BHP forum about driving a Thar from Bangalore to Tibet: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/travelogues/284761-7200km-drive-tibet-bangalore.html

    Land Rover ideas for Jeeps

A recent issue of Land Rover Monthly has an article about this Defender that's been all over - Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. One thing I found interesting that could also be useful on expedition Jeeps is this external storage box. It mounts to the side of the hardtop and appears to be...

Cool Jeeps You Can't Have - Mahindra of India

I prefer an LJ as a starting point; there are fewer differences between the LJ frame and the Savari body than there would be with a JKU frame, and there are less electronics to worry about, but I'm sure a JKU frame could be made to work. But I doubt all the stuff in the crowded JK engine...

Cool Jeeps You Can't Have - Mahindra of India

Let's check the specs... from the book pages I posted above, the 4wd Savari kerb weight is 1770 kg (3902 lbs.) and it's powered by a 4-cylinder diesel generating 59 horsepower and 150 nm of torque (110 ft. lbs.) The curb weight of a 2006 LJ with a hardtop is is 3850 lbs. and it's powered by a...

Pics of Jeeps recovering other vehicles

Does an ATV count? I came across this guy a few years ago in Escalante Canyon in northwestern Colorado. He had run into a bog and couldn't get out.

Cool Jeeps You Can't Have - Mahindra of India

The Savari was produced from sometime in the late 80's or early 90's (I believe) up until about 2010. The first versions were had full bodies but around 2005 Mahindra offered a removable top version and options included a full soft top and a removable hardtop. I've got a book on Mahindra jeep...

Cool Jeeps You Can't Have - Mahindra of India

My wife and I are still talking about bringing a Mahindra Savari over to the US and putting it on an LJ frame and mechanicals. It's a longer body and longer overhang than the Marshal in my most recent post so even better as an overlander.

A few pictures from a thread on the Indian Team-BHP forum; they're in a long thread someone wrote about his Mahindra Marshal. This link is from the current last page of the thread, he's told the story of this Jeep for many pages before the page in this link...

Maybe something different 2018 unlimited Kalahari addition

One thing to be aware of when doing a barn door for the JL and the later model JK hardtops - the factory liftgate/opening is wider than the tailgate. On the Smittybilt top and the early JK hardtops, the liftgate is the same width as the tailgate so there are no real complications in making a...

Cool Jeeps You Can't Have - Mahindra of India

The Mahindra Thar 2-door has been out for a couple of years now and anticipation has been high for a 4-door version. Mahindra released the 4-door today (it's Indian Independence Day BTW). The 4dr model isn't called the Thar, it's called the Roxx. I'll let the intro video and photos speak for...

Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

I used my tailgate-mounted bike rack today to bring my bike from storage to the house (until the garage is done, I won't have a place to store it at the house), and it occurred to me that while I've posted photos of this design before, I never posted a video showing how it goes into place. The...

Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

I haven't worked on any design ideas for Overland Outfitters in quite a while but recently they asked me to do a larger first aid bag for them, something that could be used for advanced first aid in the wild or used by first responders. I'm suggesting they do a version of their Tactical Tool...

Review: Auxbeam Rock/Underglow Lights (as campsite lights)

Summary Like all Auxbeam lighting products I have tested and used over the years, these lights are well engineered and they are built to withstand the environment underneath a vehicle. They're easy to mount (depending, of course, on where you decide to mount them), and easy to wire. All...

Review: Auxbeam Rock/Underglow Lights (as campsite lights)

Controlling the Lights and Effects The included remote control is very small (3 1/4" x 1 1/2") and functions very well for turning lights on and off and selecting colors. It's an infrared device, so needs to be pointing at the lights to work, which probably limits its usefulness while driving...
