Don't go out alone - and bring your recovery gear.

I have a Garmin InReach SE. Was $399 and the service costs $12/month. Can't send pictures but you can text or email anyone from any location on the planet, Pole to pole, including through triple-canopy jungle. Can definitely be used for "Hey, I'm stuck in perfectly fine weather, but it's been an...

    New Defender Buyers Discussions

Unfortunately, it's not entirely up to either customer clamoring or Land Rover's good will. The EPA, and more importantly, California Air Resources Board, have far more say in what engines are offered for sale in what vehicles in the US.

No, no, you see, Jeeps are different because reasons. Jeeps can have technology because they've *earned* it. They don't *need* it so it's okay. Land Rovers can't have technology because one of them a long time ago didn't, and a farmer used it to haul a wayward sheep over some foggy moor...

OK, the electronic active diff with torque vectoring is available on RRS and other JLR vehicles - it's not on the D5. This is primarily used in high-G / aggressive cornering - otherwise the active diff can electronically control the degree of coupling between left and right, and CBC (which is...

Cornering Brake Control is standard on all Defenders in the US. Just built a base Defender P300 and it shows it clearly in the "Standard Features" area. I believe it's the same CBC that's on all JLR products. Frankly it's part of the ABS system. I don't see it as anything worse than the...

Yes, they have what they call "cornering brake control," as well as brake-based hill descent control, electronic brake force distribution which biases braking force front to rear to maximize stability and minimize stopping distance, and stability control that adds brake force in panic stops and...

    New Defender Rage/Hate Thread

I think the New Defender is the best 4x4 ever made on the face of the earth, and will forever be better than any other 4x4 at everything. It can literally do anything and go anywhere. Discuss.

Not true, I've got 30,000 out of mine, down to 4mm on the rear so ready to replace. Rock Auto has a full 4 wheel package for under $600 - and that's for drilled/slotted rotors and heavy-duty pads and sensors.

Glad you saved your truck and the trip. Same thing almost happened to me - got one wheel stuck in a deep ice hole with the other three on the ice, on a solo "three hour tour" with my 8-year old son not 5 miles from civilization...but well out of cell phone range, and there was NOBODY out that...

Who ordered a New Defender ?

I'm not advocating staring at your display as if flying an airplane on instruments. It's an "at a glance" confirmation, just like your bubble level, which you yourself used in exactly the same way as I'm saying you use the tech built in to the Land Rover. Of course you walk your course, but you...

So you are so perceptive that you can tell the difference between a 30 degree side slope and a 35 degree side slope and how that will affect your vehicle with 200lbs on the roof? This display is there for the same reason people buy stick-on dash-mounted inclinometers and compasses. And yes, you...

I think that partnership has to date only extended to the Lion Td6 and SD6 engines. I actually foresee a bigger problem for Ford since a variant of that engine is now in the F150, whereas the supplier relationship with Land Rover is coming to a close. Might hurry up the Ingenium Inline-6...

Who ordered a New Defender ?

My D5 is my first Land Rover, though I've driven and ridden in LR products as far back as the 1997 Defender - the last one offered in the US - and a Discovery 1, 2, and LR4. To be honest, other than the last Defender and, for a short time, the D2, I was absolutely not interested in any Land...

You completely fail to comprehend what I'm saying. If they are NOT going to offer them in the US, then why are they designing them to meet CARB standards?

Who ordered a New Defender ?

Diesel vehicles have always sold better in the West and in the South than they do in the Midwest and Northeast. I recall driving through Iowa and sweating whether I could find non-farm diesel fuel...I stopped at three gas stations, where E85 was all over the place but not a drop of diesel...

Who ordered a New Defender ?

If you look at the spec differences between a Defender with the P300 and the Defender with the P400 in SE base specification, it's way more than $500. Compare these two specs - the only thing I selected differently was the engine, no add-on options: P300: https://build.landrover/3CB818E4...

Who ordered a New Defender ?

In the US, the Lion Td6 engine was certified only by Land Rover since Ford didn't start using it here until the MY19 F150 added it as a "PowerStroke" engine. JLR need to replace the Td6 since their contract with Ford to supply engines has ended, necessitating the Ingenium development. The...
