The only consequence of the ECU "speedo" not being set correctly is that the ECU will not accumulate the correct mileage. In our era engines it should not affect the fuel mapping but it may do. The main reason I wanted it correct was to use the Silver Leaf monitor for mileage MPG trips etc. And...
The guru has just left. :wings:
Cruise control is working. :smiley_drive:
Speed in both ECU and dash speedo are the same and correct.
But I chickened out on the HP upgrade. It is just too close to a major trip to be adding variables like that with no way to back it out except to pay a dealer...
OK test run complete. Speedo worked spot on. Totally in step with the GPS. Man have I been speeding. On the freeways I have been sitting on 2200 RPM. Looks like that equates to about 73-75 MPH. Hmmm tires are rated to 68. Oops. Cruise control is not configured, bummer but easily fixable I hope...
And a damn fine job you did with it to. You will still need to get the ECU end calibrated at some time as well but at least the speedo will be accurate.
OK a warning SPEEDO CALIBRATION. Freightliner in their infinite wisdom have gone against every other standard in the world and defined their binary to be 1 = OFF and 0 = ON. I would like to kick whoever came up with that in the nuts many times or maybe slam their male appendage in a car door a...
Finally found the cruise control plugs. Hidden In the kick panel near the diagnostic plug.
For anyone chasing down cruise on a 1999 FL60 with Cummins.
If you check the photos. It looks like 2 separate plugs per switch. It is actually only a single plug.
Wire numbers Cruise on/off N10D and...
I know the feeling well. SWMBO provides the adult supervision to keep my Mad Max tendencies to a minimum. We also have an understanding or more a project guideline that if it comes to a decision between off road ability and long term comfort we go with long term comfort. But I did sort of sneak...
You can also get those so they are like a crimp lug but the insulated jacket can hold labels. Not sure what the brand would be over here.

Shameless plug here which I will delete after expo. And yes its not a "van" based ambo but all the same criteria apply and hopefully I can persuade Chris (@UJOR) will be there to help answer the "van" questions.
Just an FYI for those heading to Overland Expo East.
We will be there and setup in...
Expo East
Just an FYI for those heading to Overland Expo East.
We will be there and setup in the feature vehicles area. Stop by and say g'day. Hopefully if you cannot see the big pus yellow ambulance we will be flying a boxing kangaroo flag.
We are also running a couple of classes/talks...
On no. No guru today. Then the diff didn't fit. But some minor progress on the little things.
I use a Little Giant safety step for getting in and out of the module. Works fantastically and is useful when trying to work on other parts of the rig. But I have just been laying it in the doorway...
Well absolutely nothing off the Todo list today but I did fit a couple on new Exide AGM group 31 batteries. Funny part is waiting on the other 2 because 4 would not fit in the Nissan Leaf to bring them home. Tomorrow will a the big day I hope. Off to Freightliner to grab a diff gasket (to check...
Put marks on the spots you will be using to check the temp. Also I would suggest doing brake lines, hub and calipers. Just write down the reading a few times during the trip if you can. That will show which was the 1st to start rising and the others would be more "referred" heat rather than...
The answer to the question is "more power" TIM THE TOOLMAN.
Speedo is via DIP switches but I think the ecu does it as well. Hence the ecu flash.
I did the DIP switches on mine and it is reading about 10% now. That's not 10% off that is 10% of what it should read. I think you shouldn't let the...
OK the plan for the weekend. I have a guru with a service computer coming by. His worklist:
Install cruise control switches.
Flash ECU to get cruise control to work.
Bump engine to max power (275HP I think) not sure what it is now but somewhere 225-275 according to VIN.
Calibrate...
Having used my front tow hook with a chain to move some 40' containers around this week I do appreciate just being able to slip the chain over and the absolute bolted straight to the chassis strength. But I am a great believer in the less stuff you touch the less you break (maintenance induced...
I'm just wondering what the Russian hackers tasked with checking Ross out are going to make of his good deed in welding up our bumpers, his penchant for being rewarded for favors with alcohol and his deplorable taste in wine.
Scooter I am figuring that the big shackle point beside the winch...
Ok you twisted my arm. If he does a good job he gets Australian wine. If it's a soso job I 'm sorry he only gets Californian stuff. Really bad job and he gets the reject Allison transmission fluid I used to flush the Tranny.
One each, couldn't buy the steel for the price of these and sharing the freight made it an even better deal. And Ross has kindly (foolishly??) volunteered to make up the mounts for all of us. I might have to step up from paying for favors with beer to wine?? Maybe even the $10 a bottle top shelf...
I have been contemplating making stairs for a couple of years. Eventually I worked out that the easiest/best way for us was to use the Little Giant folding safety step. Little pricey but stable and folds small. Best bit was I just ordered it from Amazon and it was here 2 days later. That sure...
