Who made the wheels? It’s been several years but a few companies making these had terrible quality control and could never run true and balanced. You mention PVC run flats, is this a true run flat or just the pipe to lock both beads tight in the wheel?
as for finding a shop to balance Bead...
MetalCloak Duroflex seem to be the best compromise out there. Adjustable arms, flex, soft ride and easily replaceable.
next choice would be TeraFlex adjustable arms with rubber bushings, it may be an option on their Alpine lineup.
great work on this! Question though and possibly already mentioned it, what fuel tank are you going to use? And do you plan on adding more crossmembers like the JKU has? I’d have to crawl under mine but it has at least one more crossmember holding the fuel tank up
Finally got around to starting on swapping out the surge brake assembly and lunette hitch for a receiver tube and Max Coupler. I started with unbolting the complete assembly leaving the tongue in place. I measured everything out and copied the original equipment dimensions to make the new...
I’ve had a Poison Spyder bumper and no skid plate for a decade now. I’ve hit it a couple times and bent the drop frame back almost touching the smart bar assembly. That said when I hit it it was not during normal activities and involved tall ledges. A skid plate tied into the bumper may have...
I’ve ran hubcentric spacers on a few rigs without issue and feel confident about them. The two piece spacers and non hubcentric spacers I would only consider for temporary use such as to adapt your 6 lug Toyota wheel to the 8 lug trailer axle to get by. I am considering this for my M101a3 as I...
I am currently considering the same thing. Last advice I got was to ditch the axle and go with a new axle or Timbren axle less set up. That said I really want to cut the A3 axle down and weld in new spindles with backing plates for electric brakes. Will see. I will be keeping the larger 12”...
Yes it is great and do not regret it, however it is not the same power as a diesel. I did look at the 2.8 Cummins and if I was willing to invest the money I believe that is a great if not best option for repowering a JK (or any Jeep for that matter). But it came down to money and availability...
This is sweet. I am intrigued by the whole thing and have wanted to do most all of this at different times myself. I also looked into the TDI swap but ruled it out, thinking that to get the appropriate amount of power was pushing the reliability. So I am very interested to see how this works...
Having both a JKU and a WK2, I think you’ll like it, the Hemi with the 8 speed is a nice combo. Curious to see what your plans are if you’re going to lift and add armor to protect the lower hanging body work of the WK2.
Check the grounds. Especially the PCM ground. I will also mention checking the fuses for voltage drop across them. I once had a fuse (10Amp) to the PCM that was partially burnt which checked good on continuity test but would only allow 9-10 volts through which caused all sorts of issues. My...
Any interest in the MCE flexible flares? Great product and I would imagine you could fit 37s with one inch or less lift. I have these and love them. classic simple look and much more tire clearance. I went to these after damaging my stock flares to the point that they would not ‘clip’ back on...
The knock sensors should reduce if not eliminate the knock but at a performance cost Also most of these engines never see the real loads to create much knock anyway. The 8 speed won’t let you lug the engine much and the short gear ratio separation keeps the revs high when going through the...
The belly is low enough as is I’d consider a 2.5” all suspension lift and make sure you properly bump stop it and call it a day. stock flares would work fine, just be selective on the wheel backspacing/offset. Those mopar flares are cool though. ive been running a 3.5” aev lift and 37s for over...
I had a friend who had his winch catch fire while sitting unused in his driveway. Was a Warn too. Could have been caused by a similar situation as you just experienced. I might actually take this as a sign and isolate my winch from the battery, was contemplating doing this anyway..
A quick Google search turned up some concerning reports of dealing with this company. I like the idea of a stroker motor as apposed to swapping in an LS or Hemi to get the power up to an acceptable level BUT I also prefer stock components when possible, even if they are other vehicles stock...
For 35s I’d say 5.13s but what are your future plans? 37s? Hemi? those two possible plans need the opposite gearing so plan ahead.
go Dana/spicer if possible always
I ran 5.38s on 37s for 10 years and over 200k. Thought several times that dropping the tires to 35s with those 5.38s would be...
If you're running off of the power outlet 12v, make sure you check the fuse location. depending on which power outlet you are using (and assuming your newer jeep is the same as mine) converting it from ignition switched to constant is an easy task as the fuse can be moved one slot. I will try...
not to hijack but here is how I installed mine. Sounds like the same as you for the controller but my older JK didn’t come with switched on the left side of the column so I added this 5 switch bezel from Carling. The RedRc switch is mounted in a carling blank that I drilled out for the switch...
