I’ve owned two GMT 800 Avalanches. One cladded one without. Great all around rigs for someone not needing a huge bed or enclosed suv cargo area. Will haul full sheets of drywall or plywood with the tailgate up when you drop the midgate. Don’t expect to drop 2 yards of gravel in the back...
Funny thing about the 6.2L F150’s... I had a dealer try to convince me that the 2013 F150 FX4 they had was a Raptor. They way overpriced it and wouldn’t budge. So dumb. They even had the Carfax linked. And that’s how I ended up with a 2014 5.0...
Yep! I was all ready to go snatch it up, but when I scrolled through the pics, I could clearly see that the 4wd selector was missing 4Lo. Doubled/triple checked. They call it Torque On Demand.
I looked at a Limited with a 6.2 when I was shopping for trucks last summer. Turns out that some came with a single speed transfercase, so if 4Lo is important to you, check for that.
My 2014 F150 has the 5.0L. I am averaging 17.3 mpg and can get 22mpg on the freeway if I pay attention. Power is more than adequate, just not as linear as the Ecoboost engines.
Very pretty with the snow! Those back roads can get nearly impassable when wet. Many have warnings to stay off them when rain is likely. I’ve hit small stretches that were like driving through wet concrete. Glad to see the rig performing so well! Safe travels!
I’ll never forget the first time I drove up Launchpad. That “little” bump 2/3rds of the way up is a butt clencher... Nothing but sky in the windshield. I’ve been to Moab 5 times and have plans to go back in a couple years. I’m done with the “Jeep” trails though. More into exploring the...
My thoughts:
The ballistic nylon ones I had in another truck were tough, but slick and hot. Not a fan. I’ve had neoprene as well. The odor was strong at first, but dissipated over time. They were thick and that affected the way I felt in the seat. May not be an issue with the newer covers...
Nice truck.
I think catch cans were a must for preventing carbon coking on the intake valves in the pre-2017 3.5’s, but with the additional injector Ford added in 2017, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal anymore. That being said, boosted engines will have more blow-by due to higher block...
I’d keep the lockers on the driver’s side only. Passenger side visibility is terrible on these trucks, even with a convex mirror. Having clear sight lines out the passenger side of the rear window was a must in my truck.
It’s a better setup than most side steps that use the factory mounts on the rocker sheet metal. RPG Offroad makes some for the Raptor that might work, but they are ridiculously expensive. I’ve had White Knuckle Offroad build me sliders in the past without the mounting arms. Not too hard to...
