I used Crosman AirSoft 6mm .12g BBs. So 1000 BBs = apx 4.25 oz. I am running about 2000 BBs per tire to get the recommended 8 oz of weight per 33" tire. I installed them myself but used a tire machine to pop the beads which made the process very easy.
Ive been running the airsoft pellets for over a year and have yet to have an issue. Tires such as those produced by Interco(swamper, Trxus, IROK ect) may need more than the suggested weight, adding more than the needed amount has no ill effects that I know of. with my 33" BFG MTs I used 2000...
I started out running CO2 and decided to convert my AC compressor to OBA. While I wont convert and lose AC again I will add a york on my next set up. For me there were 4 main reasons to convert to OBA;
1) I kept running out mid trail run or halfway through airing back up.
2) Space, I carry...
Nice XJ. 4.56s and 33s yield excellent mileage IMHO. My 1990 with that set up and 230k+ still gets 20mpg on the highway even loaded down with the family and gear for a weekend. I tried running with the tire on the roof and it killed power and mileage so now its in the back until I build a new...
With all the bad history that GDI left I would be worried about the newer Modine stuff. I have been running the CSF for a few years now and am VERY happy with it. That and a 180* stat. It never even gets to 210* unless I am really, really hard on it on a hot day.
An air compressor is definitely a better option. I ran Co2 for a while and while it worked great, I was always running out of air.
3.5" lift on 31s will get you almost anywhere without too much modification. A good freind of mine ran the Rubicon trail with that and a single locker in the...
Nice report and pics. I have been looking at that road on the map but never made the extra trip. Have you gone across the Naches trail or been up Ravens roost in the Little Naches area?
Pretty sweet setup other than having a really high COG. Worked pretty well, one concern I had after seeing it was tree clearance with the roof top tent. It took a beating.
While I dont personally have one, severeral of my friends have them and say they are one of the best mods they have done. Its pretty amazing how little you need to use 4wd.
