    Pimp out my Mileage!

Having everything working properly is the best thing you can do to regain lost mileage. Im not sure what mods you have or if its stock but simple tune up parts, an alignment and fluid change ect have been the most beneficial for me. If its lifted with bigger tires making sure you have the...

    Another new XJ

For the last 9 months or so I have been running 245/75R16s on stock 16" alloy wheels. Only driving on forest service roads i ran this with only 1" lift (OEM upcountry) For medium trail usage I added another inch ( 2" total) to help with articulation clearance. It rubs on the control arms at...

    Winch Bumper Idea/Help

That hidden winch setup is pretty slick! Mopar used to make a kit which has been long discontinued but was similar to that above. If you ever see a factory tow hook bracket that has 2 sets of mounting holes and extends back much further than needed, now you know why. And while I dont agree...

    XJ Winch Bumper

    What protection for '99 XJ?

For light trail/overlanding use factory option tow hook brackets, t case and gas tank skids are the right price(2nd hand) and work great for being light weight. Rocker protection is available from a number of companies, pretty much pick your price and style. I am partial to custom rocker...

    XJ Winch Bumper

I vote Moab 4x4 outpost as well. A higher clearance bumper can benefit the modest of built rigs. I too like the ARB style but having sustained damage to my jeep due to its flimsyness, I will take function over style.

XJ Unibody - strong enough to "camperize"

Aside from figuring out how to make it work have you come up with a "floor plan" on how to fit everything inside? I personally have a hard time visualizing storage, cooking, heater ect. mounted and usable in an XJ.

    deep snow tires

Thanks for the input. I am trying to talk myself into some slightly narrower more street friendly tires such as a 285/75 16 but an having a hard time loosing some floatation capabilities for the winter explorations. Summer time a BFG AT would do fine as a friend of mine runs them without much...

    deep snow tires

I am interested in your thoughts about tires for deep snow. Snow varying from a foot of powder to very deep packed drifts with a crust of ice on top. Many of my ventures are early season w/ powder and packed powder while my favorite exploration lies in the spring crawling through trails...

    Pac NW & Vancouver 8/1-8/14

Spotted you on Sherman pass Sunday 8/3 and figured by the looks of your X I would come across you on here. We were the rubber necks in the almost stock white Jeep Cherokee:sombrero: Nice pics and well equiped Xtera!

To Aussie lock the XJ or not

they are a bit softer in their engagement but still fully lock and will loose traction on ice. I wouldnt worry about running one in the rear(as long as you know how it will react) the front is where I will never run an auto locker again

    AT Comanche upgrades

I'm sure you did your research on the long arm setup but I see some potential problems, especially for a rig that will see long trips into the backcountry. 1st: I see you have a heim joint to mount the UCA to the lower arm and a RE flex joint to mount the lower CA to the axle. I assume the...

Jeep XJ -> Cloosed to Open cooled

Any reason you want the aftermarket temp guage? If your XJ doesnt have one factory its pretty easy to swap the cluster and then also gain battery voltage and oil pressure. I cant remember for sure but I think its pretty much plug and play as all the wiring should already be in place. The...

    XJ gear vs. Tire

How do you like the 4.56:1 and the 31s? To me that seems way overgeared. I have been pretty happy with my 4.56:1 and 33s, I would think 33s would offer plenty of pulling power and keep some economy even with the trailer in tow. How much does this trailer weight?

What size tire are you running?

33s have served me well. We have done the "hard" trails at Moab with no trouble as well as the Rubicon and all the hiway miles to and from. On the XJ platform 33s are about the breaking point to alot more work, money and reliability/drivability. I have considered going to 35s for only a...

    Compromises-

Not to mention that those pics are IN an old logging site. Walker Vally is constantly logged, I think it is actually part of a tree farm. Just about every where you travel into the forest in these parts have been, will be or are being logged.

    Compromises-

Matt, I have a lot of the same goals for this next rig and the interior cargo area. I too will be at least for this next summer running with the spare tire laying flat in the cargo area. I plan on building a platform just above the tire to better pack my camping gear and also separate the...

    X-Line? Viking Winchline? Amsteel Blue?

I have been wanting to "upgrade" to synthetic line for a few years now and just cant bring myself to do it.
