There is no emergency Ham frequency. The emergencies you reference would be broadcast on AM and FM radio. A CB or GMRS transceiver will receive just as well as a transistor radio.

These are all radio receivers. Since you don't want to listen to chatter why get one? Receiving is not going to help you in an emergency. Why not get a GMRS or CB ,with tuned antenna, with weather band capabilities and you can get the weather ,if available, and can talk if need be.

Higher is always better. You can run a low profile GMRS antenna on the roof and a longer high gain antenna off the hood.

Simple enough to ask that question to Icom. There are other radios with detachable faces.

Get one with a remote head unit.

I use Camco water freshener, any will do. This is for drinking water. I would not carry any water I could not drink. That does not make any sense.

I usually keep my tank full with water freshener. I also add a couple of drops of bleach.

Any radio that scans is going to lock onto the strongest signal. That is purpose of scanning to find the freq with a signal.
