I have a 15 qt Engle that I've used as a freezer as well as my 50qt ARB. Both work great. One thing is, since the unit is being used as a freezer, it is pretty much running all the time so it will run the battery down in a day.
It seems that many are obsessed with gas mileage. With the inflated price of fuel it is an issue but I don't think one can have both a capable vehicle and great mileage.
There is one exception:
The lunette rotates up and down in the ring. The pintle needs to rotate . On military trailers , the lunette ring rotates. I posted a link to the rotating pintle.
Much sturdier than the ducting. I noticed the front of the trailer does not get much heat. Perhaps running the ducting along the wall towards the front to get some heat up there.
Wow how this is being over analyzed is funny. The noise is not real , the advantage is real . People want the expensive "cool overland look" .
With a pintle, I can hitch up at a 90 degree angle . Try that with a boutique hitch .
The pintle is from Red Neck Trailers Sikeston, Missouri location. (573) 472-3839 I spoke to Pete who was very helpful. It was $160.67 + shipping.
What is nice is this hitch fits into a 2" receiver.
P/N TXO- 17916 The O after the TX is an O and not a zero.
I've used a pintle for over 20 years. Many people claim the pintle is noisy ,I have yet to encounter that issue. People want the "cool" look of an "off-road hitch" .
One advantage of a pintle is you don't have to be aligned to hitch up. You can be at 90 angle or any angle and as long as the...
More power is better. Low range is a must off road as a lower rear drive ratio. Gas mileage is secondary .
Sounds like a very expensive project to build from the ground up . You might want to look for a van that already has the qualities your seek.
