Ram coming out with split tailgate?

I think a station wagon style tailgate would be cool. You could flip it down, like a normal pickup or swing it open like a (Dutch)barn door. I was always amazed at the mechanics of that as a kid. Never took one apart to understand it though.

The Danger of using the wrong recovery equipment

I learned recovery running a wrecker and flat bed with my dad. Keep your equipment in top condition and know how to use it and it’s limitations. Since wheeling I’m surprised I haven’t seen more fatalities. For a while I used to scream at people to get safe- don’t be too close, don’t straddle...

    Physicist answering solar related questions

Omega Engineering is a good resource for data loggers and probes. More fancy = more money but they are reasonable.

    Material for fresh water tank

For a custom, welding is where it’s at. You might find a rectangular design that can have the lower corner clipped but for maximum volume in minimum space a single baffled tank is the option. Not that the other ideas don’t have merit, just I e been down this road myself... You might consider...

I saw some (lots) of big size surplus Michelin tires on eBay recently.

    L Track 2 100" sections

This stuff is great. I have it running down both sides of the bed in my 110.

    Multimeter recommendations

Didn’t think of that, but yeah, if it’s really cold the liquid crystal display won’t be liquid and therefore won’t display... even if the battery is good. I guess it should ideally be kept above freezing if you plan to use it, and I’d just put new batteries in right before a trip. Fluke...

    Multimeter recommendations

Tailor the features to your needs. I have an old Fluke 10 that was cheap but accurate. The beeper for continuity died, but otherwise it’s perfect after 20 or so years.

    Multimeter recommendations

I agree with Fluke. I would never buy a meter from Snap-On, that’s not their core competence. Fluke makes meters. Best cold weather batteries were silver oxide in my old Canon F-1. I have no idea if you can buy 9V silver oxide...

    Optimizing your pack: weight distribution.

Spurred on by some synaptic activity in another thread, it seemed like a good idea... Face it: most of us carry too much stuff. We might even use it now and again, but it can literally be TONS of stuff. So, some background first. In 2001 I was part of “Vintage Rovers Across Africa” who spent...

Adventure ("Overland") Vehicles and Payload Capacity

I don’t think it should be a “name n shame” exercise, but I think some don’t think that deep into it. Heavy stuff is in this box, on the bottom. But what about the specific pack within that box? Full optimization. And I love the pre and post trip list! That is an excellent way to pare down...

Jeep XJ Pop Top Camper Build

Sew the yellow inside with some think aluminized bubble wrap insulation in between. It would work well for signaling aircraft (just in case) and the little bit of insulation might not be a bad idea, but also keeps the layers apart, which may help with the flapping too.

    fabricated console ideas

I have a tuffy box similar to the one shown. I opened up the stereo slot and the CB sits in there now. Also a power port next to it. It came with dual cup holders that mount to the front but I never mounted them. Sort of encroach on the shifter area too much for me. But it might work in...
