I think a station wagon style tailgate would be cool. You could flip it down, like a normal pickup or swing it open like a (Dutch)barn door. I was always amazed at the mechanics of that as a kid. Never took one apart to understand it though.

For a custom, welding is where it’s at. You might find a rectangular design that can have the lower corner clipped but for maximum volume in minimum space a single baffled tank is the option. Not that the other ideas don’t have merit, just I e been down this road myself... You might consider...

I agree with Fluke. I would never buy a meter from Snap-On, that’s not their core competence. Fluke makes meters. Best cold weather batteries were silver oxide in my old Canon F-1. I have no idea if you can buy 9V silver oxide...

Sew the yellow inside with some think aluminized bubble wrap insulation in between. It would work well for signaling aircraft (just in case) and the little bit of insulation might not be a bad idea, but also keeps the layers apart, which may help with the flapping too.
